After this, WICKER and OPEN HOUSE were steadied and shifted across behind runners. Also from a wide barrier, WONDERFUL TIGER was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Despite being vigorously ridden for some distance in the early stages, COME ON WONGCHOY was slow to muster speed. After travelling a short distance, SEIZE THE SPIRIT shifted out and bumped MASTER BERNINI. Approaching the 1300 Metres, WONDERFUL TIGER momentarily raced in restricted room inside MASTER BERNINI. After the 600 Metres, LETSGOFREE got its head up when awkwardly placed behind SHINING BRIGHT. After the 500 Metres, WONDERFUL TIGER commenced to lay in and then in the Straight hung in badly and proved very difficult to ride. The racing manners of WONDERFUL TIGER were considered unacceptable. Having regard to the fact that WONDERFUL TIGER had previously been barred for performing in a similar manner, the Stewards ruled that that horse must undergo a series of satisfactory consecutive barrier trials around a bend before being permitted to race again. Throughout the race, LITTLE FANTASY travelled wide and without cover. MASTER BERNINI lost its right front plate after the race. A veterinary inspection of SEIZE THE SPIRIT and MEGATRON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LITTLE FANTASY and BONITO were sent for sampling.

After the 1600 Metres, HANG’S DECISION was steadied when crowded for room between WIN WIN and XIANG YIN which was taken in by GOLD WIN which was awkwardly placed inside BIG BANG BONG. When HANG’S DECISION was steadied, RACING LUCK, which was being shifted across behind runners, was momentarily checked away from the heels of that horse. Passing the 1300 Metres, LAST KINGDOM was checked away from the heels of XIANG YIN which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WIN WIN. MAGNETISM, which was following LAST KINGDOM, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. After the 1300 Metres, JENERATOR and WIN WIN bumped. Also after the 1300 Metres, HANG’S DECISION was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RACING LUCK. Near the 650 Metres, WIN WIN and LAST KINGDOM raced tight as WIN WIN shifted out from behind LUCKY TIME as LAST KINGDOM improved to its outside. Passing the 600 Metres, XIANG YIN was steadied away from the heels of WIN WIN which momentarily raced in restricted room between LAST KINGDOM and LUCKY TIME, both of which shifted ground. MAGNETISM, which was following XIANG YIN, was hampered in consequence. In the early part of the Straight, LAST KINGDOM got its head on the side and lay in. As LAST KINGDOM was corrected by its rider, WIN WIN, which was also inclined to lay in, was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse near the 300 Metres. Passing the 200 Metres, LAST KINGDOM, which was commencing to give ground, raced tight inside WIN WIN which shifted in. When questioned, J Moreira stated that he was asked to ride LAST KINGDOM positively if the horse began well, however, if it did not begin well, then he should shift the horse across behind runners and obtain cover from the wide barrier. He said LAST KINGDOM began only fairly and shortly after the start bumped with MAGNETISM. He said as LAST KINGDOM did not begin as well as hoped, he elected to shift his mount across behind runners and obtain a position close to the rail with cover. He said this resulted in LAST KINGDOM racing further back in the field then had been hoped. He said after becoming unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of XIANG YIN passing the 1300 Metres, LAST KINGDOM then commenced to travel more kindly. He said however that when the pace of the race slackened after the 1100 Metres, LAST KINGDOM was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of XIANG YIN for some distance. He said as he was further out of his ground than had been hoped in a race that was not being run at a good tempo, he made the decision to shift away from the heels of XIANG YIN and pursue a position closer to the lead. He added although he was able to improve his position after the 700 Metres, LAST KINGDOM was required to race wide and without cover outside MY ALLY and then came under pressure rounding the Home Turn. He said in the Straight LAST KINGDOM was then disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off the race. He said the circumstances of tonight’s race, in his opinion, were not to the advantage of LAST KINGDOM. A veterinary inspection of LAST KINGDOM immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the inside of the right hind heel. A veterinary inspection of GOLD WIN and XIANG YIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LAST KINGDOM, WIN WIN and MAGNIFICENT were sent for sampling. <23/5/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>XIANG YIN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. MONEYMORE then made the turn near the 1000 Metres awkwardly. Passing the 900 Metres, HIGH REV commenced to prove very difficult to settle, shifted in abruptly and bumped CAPTAIN BOSS. PRECIOUS SWEETIE, which was being shifted in to obtain a position behind HIGH REV, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence, got its head on the side and lay in, causing HAPPY COOPERATION to be inconvenienced. 22/05/2019  Class 4  Happy Valley  Turf  B  1650m   Going: GOOD TO FIRM  (2.7)   Rating: 060-040

CHARITY GRAND was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, CHARITY GRAND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DREAM WARRIORS began only fairly. HAPPY WARRIOR (Apprentice C Wong) lost ground on jumping when crowded for room between GOOD FOR YOU which was taken out by SALTO OLIMPICO and ACCLAIMED LIGHT which was turned in across the running by HAPPY WARRIOR after being bumped on the hindquarters by that horse. This resulted in HAPPY WARRIOR settling back in the field. When questioned, Apprentice Wong stated that after losing ground at the start when crowded for room, he elected to shift HAPPY WARRIOR across behind runners to obtain cover as it was no longer available for him to obtain a forward position. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion he attempted to shift in behind GOOD FOR YOU and obtain a position one horse off the rail, however, GENTRY improved its position quickly to be racing between HAPPY WARRIOR and REMARKABLE and for this reason he was not able to shift in. He said this resulted in HAPPY WARRIOR being left racing in a three wide position without cover after the 1300 Metres. He said when the pace of the race slackened after the 1200 Metres, he attempted to slowly improve his way forward in the hope of being able to obtain a more prominent position closer to the rail. He said he gradually improved his position and had intended to continue to allow HAPPY WARRIOR to gain ground in the hope of racing outside the leader SPARKLING SWORD. He said however that SALTO OLIMPICO shifted out passing the 900 Metres which resulted in HAPPY WARRIOR being taken wider. He said when SALTO OLIMPICO improved its way forward of MISTER MONTE to race outside SPARKLING SWORD and when MISTER MONTE continued to race one horse off the rail, this resulted in HAPPY WARRIOR continuing to race three wide and without cover. He said HAPPY WARRIOR came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then in the Straight gave ground. He added he attributed the manner in which HAPPY WARRIOR failed to finish off the race to the circumstances of tonight’s race which were as a consequence of HAPPY WARRIOR losing ground at the start and being back in the field in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. From the outside barriers, GENTRY and FAITHFUL TRINITY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1350 Metres, GOOD FOR YOU was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ACCLAIMED LIGHT which shifted in. Passing the 1300 Metres, GENTRY raced tight between REMARKABLE and HAPPY WARRIOR. When the pace slackened after the 1200 Metres, GOOD FOR YOU commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when awkwardly placed behind ACCLAIMED LIGHT. GENTRY, which was following, raced close to the heels of GOOD FOR YOU in consequence. After the 1000 Metres, SALTO OLIMPICO commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MISTER MONTE. SALTO OLIMPICO then shifted out away from the heels of MISTER MONTE when continuing to travel keenly, resulting in HAPPY WARRIOR being taken wider. SALTO OLIMPICO was then allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead. Approaching the 400 Metres, DREAM WARRIORS was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of ACCLAIMED LIGHT. Passing the 200 Metres, GENTRY raced tight inside the heels of GOOD FOR YOU. Close to the finishing line, REMARKABLE was crowded for room inside SALTO OLIMPICO which shifted in away from ACCLAIMED LIGHT which shifted in under pressure before being straightened. A veterinary inspection of SPARKLING SWORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY WARRIOR, ACCLAIMED LIGHT and SALTO OLIMPICO were sent for sampling. <23/5/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>SPARKLING SWORD, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. HONEST WAY was withdrawn on 21.5.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BALLISTIC KING (M L Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, HONEST WAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being loaded into the barriers, CALIFORNIA ARGENT became very fractious, lunged at the front gates and in doing so broke open the front gates. K Teetan, the rider of CALIFORNIA ARGENT, was dislodged in this incident and CALIFORNIA ARGENT then proceeded riderless for some distance. As CALIFORNIA ARGENT took some time to be captured, the field was removed from the barriers and which resulted in a delay to the start of the race. Acting on veterinary advice that CALIFORNIA ARGENT was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA ARGENT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, K Teetan was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements. GOLDEN DASH shifted out at the start, resulting in LOVING A BOOM bumping PLANET STAR, causing both those horses to be hampered. MANNA FROM HEAVEN was checked when crowded for room on jumping between ELITE PATCH and MIGHTY MAVERICK which got its head on the side and shifted in. In this incident, ELITE PATCH and in particular MIGHTY MAVERICK became unbalanced. After this, MANNA FROM HEAVEN was shifted across behind runners. Close to the finishing line, SHANGHAI MASTER raced tight inside the hindquarters of PLANET STAR. CEREFINO lost its left front plate after the race. A veterinary inspection of STARLIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LOVING A BOOM and PLANET STAR were sent for sampling.

22/05/2019  Class 3  Happy Valley  Turf  B  1200m   Going: GOOD TO FIRM  (2.7)   Rating: 080-060

Trainer J Moore was fined the sum of $10,000 for breaching Trainers’ Handbook Regulation 41 in that he entered VICTORY MACHINE (V358) for a barrier trial at Sha Tin on Tuesday, 21 May 2019 when that horse was the second Standby Declared Starter for this race. MOST BEAUTIFUL shifted out at the start and bumped FEARLESS FIRE. On jumping, MR GENUINE was bumped by HAPPY TIME which shifted in. ENDEARING began only fairly and then after being ridden along in the early stages was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. From the outside barriers, SMART LEADER and WINNING FEELING were also shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. Near the 1050 Metres, SPARKLING DRAGON shifted in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of MOST BEAUTIFUL. When being steadied to allow TELECOM PUMA to cross, MOST BEAUTIFUL travelled keenly after the 1000 Metres. Passing the 900 Metres, SPARKLING DRAGON commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of MOST BEAUTIFUL. After the 300 Metres, SPARKLING DRAGON was shifted in away from the heels of WINNING SUPREME to obtain clear running. Then passing the 200 Metres, SPARKING DRAGON momentarily lay out towards the heels of WINNING SUPREME. Throughout the race, WINNING SUPREME travelled wide and without cover. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of G van Niekerk (SPARKLING DRAGON), 3rd placegetter, very close to the finishing line did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. When questioned regarding the performance of TELECOM PUMA, Z Purton stated that he had to ride his mount along for some distance in the early stages to cross runners to his inside which he was able to do after the 1000 Metres. He said when HAPPY TIME improved its position outside TELECOM PUMA after the 900 Metres, he felt he would have had to ride his mount along in an endeavour to maintain its position inside that horse and as he had already ridden TELECOM PUMA along for some distance in the early stages, he elected to take a trailing position behind HAPPY TIME. He said when he did this, TELECOM PUMA was initially "timid”. He said he was able to shift TELECOM PUMA to the outside of HAPPY TIME at the 400 Metres into clear running, however, when asked to improve between HAPPY TIME and MOST BEAUTIFUL in the early part of the Straight, TELECOM PUMA was reluctant to maintain its position between those horses despite being ridden along. He said then over the concluding stages TELECOM PUMA gave ground. He added he recommended to the connections of TELECOM PUMA after the race that they consider leading on the horse if circumstances permit. A veterinary inspection of TELECOM PUMA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY TIME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TELECOM PUMA, FEARLESS FIRE and SMART LEADER were sent for sampling.
