On entering the track, J Moreira, the rider of GOLDEN SPECTRUM, was dislodged without incident. CLEMENT LEGEND began only fairly. GOLDEN SPECTRUM shifted out at the start and bumped METHANE. From the outside barrier, VINCY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that as BLASTOISE was drawn an outside barrier in a relatively small field, it was felt that if the horse were to be ridden into a forward position as had previously been the case, BLASTOISE would either be required to race outside the lead or may be required to travel wide and without cover. He said as BLASTOISE is better suited when ridden with cover, it was agreed that the best option for the horse to obtain cover would be for it to be ridden quietly in tonight’s race. He added because of the slow tempo of the race BLASTOISE was not able to finish off the race as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of TANGMERE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BEAUTY HAPPY and VINCY were sent for sampling.

In this incident, TIGER GLARE and WINSTON’S LAD both became unbalanced. SPACE lay out making the turn after the 1000 Metres. He said SUPER ALLIANCES travelled well in the middle stages and rounding the Home Turn quickened satisfactorily. He said SUPER ALLIANCES continued to respond to his riding until near the 150 Metres at which stage the horse came under heavy pressure. He added over the final 100 Metres SUPER ALLIANCES was very disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. GREEN ENVY began awkwardly. UNIVERSAL GO GO shifted out at the start and bumped DRAGON PRIDE. EVEN KEEL and HAR HAR HEART bumped at the start. After this, EVEN KEEL and HAR HAR HEART were shifted across behind runners. After travelling a short distance, INDIGENOUS STAR and UNIVERSAL GO GO raced tight between DRAGON PRIDE and AFTER ME which shifted out. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GREEN ENVY got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of CLASSIC POSH, resulting in GREEN ENVY being checked away from the heels of that horse and losing ground. At the entrance to the Straight, GREEN ENVY was shifted out away from the heels of ORIENTAL ELITE which shifted out. N Callan (ORIENTAL ELITE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after attempting to improve between SMILING SUCCESS and STARLIT KNIGHT near the 350 Metres and being disappointed for running between those horses, he failed to make sufficient endeavours to prevent ORIENTAL ELITE from shifting out after the 350 Metres across the rightful running of CLASSIC POSH, causing that horse to be checked. When CLASSIC POSH was checked, INDIGENOUS STAR was shifted out away from the heels of that horse and then shifted out further, resulting in AFTER ME being steadied and losing ground. N Callan was suspended from riding in races for the racemeeting to be conducted at Sha Tin on Sunday, 21 June 2020. As such, N Callan is eligible to resume race riding on Monday, 22 June 2020. In addition, Jockey Callan was fined $35,000. Near the 50 Metres, STARLIT KNIGHT (T H So) and MURRAY’S PARTNERS raced tight as STARLIT KNIGHT shifted out under pressure. Due to the two horses racing tight, T H So was restricted in his use of the whip. Close to the finishing line, ORIENTAL ELITE and UNIVERSAL GO GO raced tight. For the majority of the race, DRAGON PRIDE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the performance of CLASSIC POSH, Z Purton stated that although the horse was quite badly checked after the 350 Metres, at this stage CLASSIC POSH was already under heavy pressure. He said from a favourable draw he was able to obtain a good position in the early stages without having to make any use of CLASSIC POSH and the horse travelled well in the middle stages behind STARLIT KNIGHT. He said CLASSIC POSH came under pressure near the 500 Metres and after being vigorously ridden after that point did not respond as he anticipated. He said rounding the Home Turn CLASSIC POSH was under considerable pressure and after being checked near the 350 Metres gave ground noticeably and finished at the rear of the field. He added, in his opinion, despite the interference at the entrance to the Straight CLASSIC POSH was disappointing as it was under heavy pressure prior to that point. A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC POSH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CLASSIC POSH, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC POSH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of AFTER ME, SMILING SUCCESS and DRAGON PRIDE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ORIENTAL ELITE, MURRAY’S PARTNERS and STARLIT KNIGHT were sent for sampling.

DECISIVE TWELVE, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin. DESTINE JEWELLERY began awkwardly. From the outside barriers, SPLIT OF A SECOND and NOBLE CONSORT were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. When being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, SWEETLY BABY was taken out near the 1150 Metres by SPRINT FORWARD, resulting in DECISIVE TWELVE being steadied away from the heels of SWEETLY BABY, shifting out and brushing the hindquarters of SPLIT OF A SECOND. Shortly after the start, SKY SHOW and JOLLY CONVERGENCE raced tight. After the 900 Metres, ROMAN IMPERO was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SKY TREASURE was awkwardly placed behind SPRINT FORWARD. Rounding the Home Turn, DESTINE JEWELLERY was awkwardly placed behind THIS IS CHARISMA. DESTINE JEWELLERY was then held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and after the 300 Metres was shifted to the inside of THIS IS CHARISMA before being shifted in further away from the heels of SKY TREASURE to obtain clear running approaching the 200 Metres. Passing the 200 Metres, Apprentice C Wong (SWEETLY BABY) dropped his right rein which he was not able to regather until near the 100 Metres. Near the 175 Metres, SPLIT OF A SECOND was bumped by TOP MILITARY (T H So) which shifted out. T H So was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. When SPLIT OF A SECOND was bumped, it shifted out and inconvenienced ROMAN IMPERO. When questioned regarding the improved performance of TOP MILITARY, Trainer T P Yung stated that the only explanation he could offer for tonight’s success was the application of blinkers to the gear carried by TOP MILITARY. He said at its last start he had stepped up the horse in distance to 1650 Metres in the hope that it would be able to obtain a more forward position, however, after failing to show any early speed and then not finishing off the race he elected to bring the horse back in distance to 1200 Metres. He said as TOP MILITARY had performed well with the blinkers on prior to being imported into Hong Kong, he elected to add this piece of equipment to the horse in the hope that that would result in TOP MILITARY being able to obtain a more prominent position and then being able to finish off the race better than it had done at its previous starts in Hong Kong. He added whilst he was hopeful that the addition of this gear would result in a better performance from TOP MILITARY tonight, he did not anticipate that the horse would race as well as it did. A veterinary inspection of SPRINT FORWARD and SKY TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. TOP MILITARY and SKY SHOW were sent for sampling.

LUCKY MISSILE began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between INCANTO PREPARED and BIG BANG BONG which got its head up on jumping and shifted in. BEST FOR YOU lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected. RIGHT HONOURABLE and HUMBLE STEED were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, BLOOMING SPIRIT raced tight inside INCANTO PREPARED. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, LASTING FRIENDSHIP was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GO BALLISTIC when racing tight inside STARLIGHT and being steadied to obtain cover behind GO BALLISTIC. Near the 1500 Metres, HUMBLE STEED got its head up when awkwardly placed behind BEST FOR YOU which was being steadied to obtain cover behind BIG BANG BONG. Passing the 1100 Metres, LUCKY MISSILE momentarily raced tight inside INCANTO PREPARED which was awkwardly placed inside GO BALLISTIC which shifted in marginally. Also passing the 1100 Metres, BEST FOR YOU commenced to travel keenly and was shifted out away from the heels of BIG BANG BONG. BIG BANG BONG had some difficulty obtaining clear running after the 150 Metres and near the 100 Metres was shifted to the inside of COURAGEOUS DRAGON. After this, BIG BANG BONG raced in restricted room between COURAGEOUS DRAGON and BLOOMING SPIRIT. C Schofield (RIGHT HONOURABLE) dropped his whip near the 75 Metres. Over the concluding stages, GO BALLISTIC was steadied away from the heels of INCANTO PREPARED (V Borges) which shifted in under pressure. V Borges was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to keep his mounts on a straight course. Throughout the race, STARLIGHT travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of HUMBLE STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. COURAGEOUS DRAGON, LIGHTNING STEED and LUCKY MISSILE were sent for sampling.

PRAWN YEAH YEAH began only fairly. From the outside barrier, FIRE BALL was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From a wide barrier, DAILY DELIGHT was also steadied to obtain cover shortly after the start. WILD WEST WING shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of WE THE SOUTH, resulting in WILD WEST WING losing ground and WE THE SOUTH becoming unbalanced. PLAY TO WIN began only fairly. WINNER’S HEART lost its right hind plate in the early stages. Making the turn near the 550 Metres, EXCELLENT CHARIOT got its head on the side and lay out. Also near the 550 Metres, WINNER’S HEART lay out and made the turn very awkwardly. At the entrance to the Straight, OVERSUBSCRIBED was shifted out away from the heels of EXCELLENT CHARIOT in an endeavour to obtain clear running. OVERSUBSCRIBED was then disappointed for a run between EXCELLENT CHARIOT and EVERBRAVE which shifted in passing the 250 Metres. As K C Leung (EVERBRAVE) was commencing to use the whip after the 200 Metres, his whip inadvertently made contact with EXCELLENT CHARIOT on his inside which resulted in K C Leung losing the use of the whip. Passing the 100 Metres, DAILY DELIGHT was shifted out away from the heels of FORZA ANGEL. When questioned, Z Purton stated that it was intended for FORZA ANGEL to be ridden in a forward position. He said FORZA ANGEL began satisfactorily, however, did not show as much early speed as he anticipated and when he looked to his inside shortly after the start, he established that a number of horses which were drawn more favourably were being hard ridden to obtain a forward position and appeared to be showing more early speed than FORZA ANGEL. He said he felt he would have had to make a lot of use of FORZA ANGEL to cross those horses to his inside and therefore FORZA ANGEL may not be able to finish off the race, so he elected to steady his mount approaching the 900 Metres and obtain cover behind WINNER’S HEART which was continuing to be ridden forward. He said as he did this WINNER’S HEART was shifted in to race behind EVERBRAVE which resulted in him having to come back further behind that horse to obtain cover. He added the circumstances of the race in the early stages resulted in FORZA ANGEL being ridden further back in the field than had been intended. A veterinary inspection of DAILY DELIGHT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea and also found the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DAILY DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of WINNER’S HEART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of PRAWN YEAH YEAH immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. WILD WEST WING, WE THE SOUTH and JAZZ STEED were sent for sampling.

DIVINE UNICORN shifted out at the start and bumped ULTIMATE GLORY. DIVINE UNICORN was then crowded for room between ULTIMATE GLORY and RICH AND LUCKY which shifted out a short distance after the start. Shortly after the start, NAMJONG PLUS and CHARITY WINGS bumped. After this, NAMJONG PLUS was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. From wide barriers, CHARIZARD and FLASH FAMOUS were also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 100 Metres, NAMJONG PLUS was shifted out away from the heels of DIVINE UNICORN which shifted out away from SUNSHINE WARRIOR which shifted out before being corrected by its rider. The Stewards will interview Mr W Y So, the trainer of DIVINE UNICORN, regarding the improved performance of that horse in tonight’s race prior to the Sha Tin racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 7 June 2020. Mr So informed the Stewards that he had left the course due to ill health. When questioned regarding the performance of RICH AND LUCKY, Z Purton stated that as it was anticipated that THUNDER STOMP and TOP SCORE would be ridden along from wide barriers to obtain a forward position, he was asked to take a trailing position behind those horses rather than engage in a speed battle in the early stages to contest the lead. He said RICH AND LUCKY was able to obtain a forward position in the early stages without having to be made use of and relaxed satisfactorily after being crossed by TOP SCORE after the 1300 Metres. He said RICH AND LUCKY travelled as well as it did at its most recent start over the course and distance when successful and at the 500 Metres shifted to the outside of TOP SCORE which came under pressure. He said RICH AND LUCKY initially quickened well, however, at the entrance to the Straight was not finishing off the race as anticipated and came under pressure. He said then in the Straight RICH AND LUCKY was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. He added whilst RICH AND LUCKY was up in grade tonight, nonetheless the horse was disappointing, particularly given the manner in which it was successful at its most recent start. A veterinary inspection of RICH AND LUCKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of RICH AND LUCKY, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RICH AND LUCKY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RICH AND LUCKY, DIVINE UNICORN and SUNSHINE WARRIOR were sent for sampling. <7/6/2020 3 June 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 8 (717)> The Stewards today interviewed Mr W Y So, the trainer of DIVINE UNICORN, regarding the improved performance of the horse. He said DIVINE UNICORN was having only its third start since being transferred to his stable and, in his opinion, had been showing improvement. He said at its most recent start he had instructed for the horse to be ridden quietly due to the outside barrier as he felt that too much use of the horse would have to be made to obtain a prominent position. He said at the start prior to that he had instructed for the horse to be ridden more positively, however, for the majority of the race it travelled wide and without cover and consequently was not able to finish off the race. He said in the subject race DIVINE UNICORN was able to be ridden in a more forward position from a favourable barrier and had benefited by the race being run at a good temp. He added he had found DIVINE UNICORN to be somewhat one-paced, so the horse having been drawn favourably and being able to be ridden more prominently and then being suited by the tempo of the race had resulted in DIVINE UNICORN being able to finish off the race well.
