LUCKY GUY began awkwardly and made contact with the outside of its gate, resulting in the horse being slow to begin. BRAVERY AND POWER shifted out at the start and bumped MONEYMORE which was in turn taken out onto BREAK RECORD which was crowded for room inside HOME WIN. KA YING BRILLIANCE began awkwardly and then became badly unbalanced as a result of being bumped by FLYING SPIRIT which shifted in. Then, despite being ridden along in the early stages, KA YING BRILLIANCE failed to muster speed and after the 1100 Metres was shifted across behind runners. GOLDEN GENERAL was crowded for room on jumping between JOYFUL CHEERS and READY CONQUEROR which shifted out. In this incident, JOYFUL CHEERS became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by GOLDEN GENERAL. After this, from a wide barrier, GOLDEN GENERAL was steadied to obtain cover. FLYING SPIRIT was also steadied in the early stages from a wide barrier to obtain cover. When being shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier in the early stages, READY CONQUEROR got its head up on a number of occasions and initially proved difficult to settle. 24/10/2020  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  C  1000m   Going: GOOD  (2.7)   Rating: 054-041

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that YOUNG VICTORY had blood at its mouth. YOUNG VICTORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race. ALL THE WAY was badly crowded for room on jumping between ALL BEST FRIENDS which shifted in marginally and VEGA RHYTHM which, after being fractious in the barriers, shifted out. ALL THE WAY then lost ground when further crowded for room between VEGA RHYTHM and ALL BEST FRIENDS which was taken in by MULTIMORE which got its head on the side and shifted in. In this incident, VEGA RHYTHM shifted in away from ALL BEST FRIENDS, resulting in APOLAR WARRIOR being crowded for room. GIVE WAY PLEASE shifted out at the start and bumped YOUNG VICTORY. GIVE WAY PLEASE then shifted in and inconvenienced WONDERFUL TIMES. SCENIC SWEETIE became unbalanced when bumped by SPARKLING DOLPHIN shortly after the start. Passing the 900 Metres, VEGA RHYTHM was steadied away from the heels of ALL BEST FRIENDS. QIPAO BOSS lay out for some distance after the 500 Metres, Over the concluding stages, SPARKLING DOLPHIN raced tight outside QIPAO BOSS which shifted out under pressure. YOUNG VICTORY, which was following SPARKLING DOLPHIN, raced close to the heels of that horse in consequence. For the majority of the race, MULTIMORE raced greenly and lay in. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GIVE WAY PLEASE, M L Yeung stated that at its first race start the horse travelled keenly whereas today it did not travel strongly at any stage. He said GIVE WAY PLEASE lay out in the early stages and was reluctant to maintain its position outside SPARKLING DOLPHIN which resulted in GIVE WAY PLEASE being very awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse approaching the 700 Metres. He said after this GIVE WAY PLEASE came off the bridle and, despite being ridden along approaching and passing the 600 Metres, did not respond to his riding. He said he had to place GIVE WAY PLEASE under heavy pressure after the 500 Metres, however, the horse did not quicken and then was particularly disappointing regarding the manner in which it weakened over the concluding stages. He added whilst GIVE WAY PLEASE’s fitness had improved after its first run, the horse is still very immature and he felt that this was the principal reason for the horse’s failure to finish off its race. Mr D A Hayes, the trainer of GIVE WAY PLEASE, stated that following today’s disappointing performance, it is his intention to give the horse a short let-up and then if the programme allows, to step it up to 1200 Metres, a distance that would allow it to travel better and close off the race. A veterinary inspection of GIVE WAY PLEASE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GIVE WAY PLEASE, favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GIVE WAY PLEASE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CRUCIATUS immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.. GIVE WAY PLEASE, GOKO and ALL THE WAY were sent for sampling.

PERFECT HARMONY, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin. ADONIS began awkwardly and lost ground and then was steadied away from the heels of SMILING SUCCESS shortly after the start when that horse shifted in. COOL ACE was crowded for room on jumping between BLAZING PARTNERS and GREAT HARVEST, both of which shifted ground. BLAZING PARTNERS consequently shifted out and bumped MASTERWORK, causing both horses to become unbalanced. After this, BLAZING PARTNERS was steadied to obtain cover. From the outside barrier, RED BRICK FIGHTER was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. When being steadied to obtain cover approaching the 1000 Metres, GREAT HARVEST got its head up on a number of occasions. After this, GREAT HARVEST continued to race ungenerously. After the 900 Metres, COOL ACE was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 500 Metres, BLAZING PARTNERS raced in restricted room between VITAL SPRING which improved quickly to its outside and THE FULL BLOOM which, when shifting to the outside of SHANGHAI DRAGON, was taken wider by that horse. Passing the 500 Metres, SMILING SUCCESS was bumped by ADONIS which shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREAT HARVEST. SMILING SUCCESS was then bushed by ADONIS at the entrance to the Straight as that horse raced tight outside GREAT HARVEST which shifted to the outside of MASTERWORK. ADONIS and SMILING SUCCESS again made contact near the 400 Metres as SHANGHAI DRAGON was attempting to improve into tight running which was available outside SMILING SUCCESS and inside COOL ACE. When SMILING SUCCESS was bumped by ADONIS, SMILING SUCCESS shifted out, resulting in SHANGHAI DRAGON racing tight outside SMILING SUCCESS and shifting out, causing COOL ACE and THE FULL BLOOM to be crowded for room inside VITAL SPRING. COOL ACE was then checked away from the heels of SHANGHAI DRAGON approaching the 350 Metres as that horse continued to race tight outside SMILING SUCCESS. RED BRICK FIGHTER was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and approaching the 300 Metres was steadied when unable to improve between MASTERWORK and GREAT HARVEST. RED BRICK FIGHTER then continued to be held up for clear running until approaching the 200 Metres. VIVA COUNCIL had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and after obtaining clear running near the 200 Metres got its head on the side and lay out under pressure. Approaching the 300 Metres, SHANGHAI DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of VITAL SPRING when racing tight between that horse and SMILING SUCCESS. SHANGHAI DRAGON then continued to be awkwardly placed behind VITAL SPRING and SMILING SUCCESS and after momentarily obtaining clear running between those horses passing the 300 Metres was steadied when unable to continue improving as a result of SMILING SUCCESS (A Badel) shifting out away from ADONIS. SHANGHAI DRAGON then continued to be awkwardly placed behind SMILING SUCCESS and VITAL SPRING and passing the 100 Metres was shifted in away from the heels of SMILING SUCCESS. A Badel was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to do more than he did on this occasion to prevent his mount from shifting ground. The performance of PLANET FLYER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PLANET FLYER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of PLANET FLYER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. When questioned, A Badel (SMILING SUCCESS) stated that in a trial leading up to today’s race, he had ridden the horse behind the speed to see whether it could finish off better than it had been in some of its recent races when it had been ridden to obtain the lead. He said in that trial SMILING SUCCESS had finished off satisfactorily. He said today he was instructed to ride his mount positively in the early stages and if he was able to obtain the lead easily, it was acceptable for him to do so, however, if other horses were ridden to obtain the lead, then it was acceptable for him to obtain a trailing position. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages to obtain a forward position and then after the 1200 Metres when horses racing outside of SMILING SUCCESS were ridden positively, he allowed those horses to cross SMILING SUCCESS as he would have had to ride his mount along to maintain a leading position. A veterinary inspection of SHANGHAI DRAGON and GREAT HARVEST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SHANGHAI DRAGON, THE FULL BLOOM and RED BRICK FIGHTER were sent for sampling.

AION, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 23.10.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence). Before being allowed to race again, AION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WIN FOR YOUTH began awkwardly and then was crowded for room between BRAVE POWER and HAPPY RUBY, both of which shifted ground. After this, all three horses were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. When being steadied to obtain cover, HAPPY RUBY travelled keenly and got its head up for some distance. COBY OPPA was also steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover. After travelling a short distance, RUNNING GUY got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly when being ridden along. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HARD PROMISE was slow to muster speed and subsequently travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. Approaching the 1000 Metres, MAGIC SUPREME travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover behind HARD PROMISE. Then approaching the 900 Metres, MAGIC SUPREME got its head up when continuing to travel keenly and awkwardly placed behind HARD PROMISE. After the 1000 Metres, SUPER MISSION, which was being steadied to obtain cover, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SKY TREASURE (Apprentice C Wong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. WIN FOR YOUTH made the turn after the 900 Metres awkwardly. Passing the 500 Metres, SUPER MISSION was awkwardly placed behind SKY TREASURE. SUPER MISSION then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight when inclined to lay out and then passing the 300 Metres shifted out away from SKY TREASURE and became awkwardly placed inside the heels of HARD PROMISE. After the 500 Metres, COBY OPPA raced tight between BRAVE POWER and RUNNING GUY when improving into restricted room between those horses. COBY OPPA was then held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 250 Metres, WIN FOR YOUTH raced tight outside HAPPY RUBY which shifted out away from BRAVE POWER. Apprentice C Wong was reminded of his obligation in respect of using the whip on a horse when out of contention. After the race, it was reported that PACKING APEX had bled from both nostrils. COURIER WONDER and EVERYONE’S DELIGHT were sent for sampling.

VOLPINO was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, DYNAMIC EAGLE was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. Passing the 900 Metres, DYNAMIC EAGLE was taken wider by VOLPINO which shifted out. Passing the 500 Metres, FULL POWER shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of BEAUTY ANGEL, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and FULL POWER shifting in and bumping DRAGON COMMANDER which was attempting to improve between FULL POWER and FAMILY LEADER. DYNAMIC EAGLE made the Home Turn awkwardly after shifting out away from the heels of JIMMU which improve to the outside of SMART COUSIN. In the early part of the Straight, STARSHIP lay in under pressure. Over the concluding stages, SMART COUSIN was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CHEERFUL STAR. DRAGON COMMANDER lay out in the Straight. After the race, V Borges stated that leaving the 1000 Metres DYNAMIC EAGLE momentarily felt awkward in its action, however, a short distance after this travelled more comfortably. Also after the race, A Badel was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of BUNDLE OF ENERGY. He said after being able to obtain a good position in midfield, he commenced to ride the horse along approaching the Home Turn, however, it quickened only fairly and then over the latter stages of the race was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of BUNDLE OF ENERGY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BUNDLE OF ENERGY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, H N Wong (SALTO OLIMPICO) expressed concern regarding the action of the horse. A veterinary inspection of SALTO OLIMPICO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SALTO OLIMPICO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEAUTY ANGEL and CHEERFUL STAR were sent for sampling.

After leaving the Parade Ring, PERFECT TO GREAT became fractious and bumped a rail which was displaced. PERFECT TO GREAT was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the time who said the horse was suitable to proceed to the barriers. On arrival at the Start, PERFECT TO PLAY was again examined by another Veterinary Officer who advised the horse had sustained a minor abrasion to the left gaskin and hock but was suitable to race. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT TO GREAT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT TO GREAT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HELENE WISDOM STAR proved difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, HELENE WISDOM STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. PRECISE EXPRESS, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, began awkwardly and then was crowded for room on jumping between GREAT TREASURE and OWNERS’ STAR which shifted in. RICH AND LUCKY and PERFECT TO GREAT bumped at the start. SUPER ELEGANCE was crowded for room on jumping between BEAUTY DAY and ELITE PATCH which shifted out. After this, from a wide barrier, SUPER ELEGANCE was shifted across behind runners. From a wide barrier, TEMPEST EXPRESS was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the 1000 Metres, ELITE PATCH was inclined to lay out when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed behind ENZEMBLE. Passing the 400 Metres, OWNERS’ STAR was hampered when crowded for room between ELITE PATCH which shifted in marginally and EASY GO EASY WIN which shifted out when being awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING MIGHTY which, when commencing to give ground, was taken out by RICH AND LUCKY. This resulted in OWNERS’ STAR losing ground and being steadied away from the heels of EASY GO EASY WIN after the 350 Metres. OWNERS’ STAR was again hampered when disappointed for running between ELITE PATCH and EASY GO EASY WIN which shifted out passing the 250 Metres. FARSHAD lay in over the concluding stages. When questioned, Z Purton stated that stepping up to 1600 Metres today, he was asked to ensure that FLYING MIGHTY began well as the horse had been getting too far out of its ground in its previous two starts over a shorter distance. He said he was also instructed to obtain cover in as forward a position as possible depending on how the horse began and travelled in the early stages. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along for some distance in the early stages and passing the 1400 Metres anticipated that ELITE PATCH might be able to obtain a trailing position behind EASY GO EASY WIN which would allow him to shift in behind ENZEMBLE and obtain a three wide position with cover. He said however that when ELITE PATCH was not able to shift behind EASY GO EASY WIN, this resulted in FLYING MIGHTY being left racing four wide and without cover. He said he consequently allowed his mount to improve its position after the 1200 Metres to see whether it would be able to obtain a position closer to the rail, however, FLYING MIGHTY was only able to improve its position forward of ENZEMBLE which resulted in FLYING MIGHTY travelling three wide and without cover outside the leaders. He added, given the hard run that FLYING MIGHTY had experienced, the horse came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then in the early part of the Straight and commenced to give ground. A veterinary inspection of FLYING MIGHTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned, Apprentice C L Chau (EASY GO EASY WIN) stated that he was instructed to lead if able to do so, but if the riders of other runners were intent on leading, it was acceptable for him to take a trailing position. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position, however, EASY GO EASY WIN did not show as much speed as anticipated and for this reason raced further back in the field then had been intended. He added EASY GO EASY WIN came under pressure after the 600 Metres to maintain its position and, despite being ridden along, did not quicken rounding the Home Turn. He said after being held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight, he was able to obtain clear running prior to the 200 Metres, however, EASY GO EASY WIN did not finish off the race and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of EASY GO EASY WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of ENZEMBLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. EASY GO EASY WIN, GREAT TREASURE and PERFECT TO GREAT were sent for sampling.

In the Parade Ring, it was noted that CHAMP PATROL had blood at its right nostril as a result of a cut. On arrival at the Start, CHAMP PATROL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was suitable to race. CHAIRMAN LO stumbled at the start, resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced. After this, from a wide barrier, CHAIRMAN LO was shifted across behind runners. ALL FOR ST PAUL’S and SO AWESOME bumped at the start. ROBOT WARRIOR shifted out at the start and bumped PRETTY CUTE. After this, PRETTY CUTE was steadied to obtain cover shortly after the start. From a wide barrier, EVEN KEEL was also steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. VIGOR CHAMP had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 400 Metres, CALIFORNIA LEVEE lay in and bumped FORTUNE HERO. Approaching the 350 Metres, MIGHTY POWER raced tight outside CHAMP PATROL which got its head on the side and shifted out away from ALL FOR ST PAUL’S. In the Straight, MIGHT POWER lay in under pressure. When questioned, T Piccone stated that he was asked to ride ROBOT WARRIOR, which was having its second race start today, in about a midfield position from barrier 8 if possible. He said after shifting his mount across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover, he had to ride ROBOT WARRIOR along after the 1200 Metres as it was getting out of its ground. He said he had intended to maintain his position inside SMART HUNTER, however, ROBOT WARRIOR was not traveling well enough for him to do so and SMART HUNTER was able to shift in front of ROBOT WARRIOR near the 1000 Metres. He said ROBOT WARRIOR made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly and lay out and came off the bridle which resulted in him having to ride the horse along more vigorously. He added he continued to ride the horse along rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, however, it did not respond to his riding until approaching the 200 Metres at which stage it commenced to finish off the race well. He said he continued to ride ROBOT WARRIOR out over the concluding stages and the horse closed off the race strongly. After the race, K Teetan (ALL FOR ST PAUL’S) stated that he rode his mount along for some distance in the early stages to cross runners to his inside. He said it was not until after the 1200 Metres that he was able to clear MIGHTY POWER and VIGOR CHAMP and then obtain a trailing position behind FORTUNE HERO. He said the pace in the early stages of the race was quicker than standard and he felt that this likely impacted upon ALL FOR ST PAUL’S ability to close off the race as it was one-paced. A veterinary inspection of ALL FOR ST PAUL’S immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of CHAMP PATROL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUNNY STAR and MIGHTY POWER were sent for sampling.

SPARKLING KNIGHT lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began very awkwardly and then became badly unbalanced as a result of bumping with MERIDIAN GENIUS. FLYING GENIUS lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin and then lost ground after being bumped by BALTIC SUCCESS which shifted out. JOYFUL HEART was slow to begin. SEA OF LIFE shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of CRUISING which became unbalanced. Passing the 200 Metres, LOBO’S LEGEND was crowded for room between SEA OF LIFE and LORIZ which got its head on the side and lay out. After this, LORIZ was shifted back in to relieve the crowding to LOBO’S LEGEND. In this incident, SEA OF LIFE was bumped on the hindquarters by LOBO’S LEGEND. JOYFUL HEART was badly held up for clear running from near the 150 Metres until approaching the 50 Metres at which stage the horse was directed to the inside of MERIDIAN GENIUS to obtain clear running. H T Mo (SPARKLING KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift out, resulting in FLYING GENIUS being taken out onto LOBO’S LEGEND, causing that horse to be hampered and in turn taken out across the rightful running of SEA OF LIFE which was checked. H T Mo was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 18 November 2020 and to expire on Monday, 23 November 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CRUISING, A Hamelin stated that whilst he had no recent experience on the horse, it did not appear to be travelling comfortably for him at any stage. He said the horse lay in for the majority of the race and would not race truly. He said CRUISING came under heavy pressure prior to the 400 Metres and then gave ground noticeably over the concluding stages when continuing to lay in and proving difficult to ride. He added after the race CRUISING made an abnormal breathing noise. He said he recommended to connections to experiment with gear on CRUISING as, in his opinion, the horse was not concentrating in today’s race. Mr T P Yung, the trainer of CRUISING, stated that following its last start success he had sent the horse to Conghua and it had done well there before being returned to Hong Kong. He said he was not able to provide any reason for the disappointing performance as the horse had not experienced any setbacks since its last start success and, based on its work, was expected to race well. A veterinary inspection of CRUISING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CRUISING, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CRUISING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOOD VIEW CLARICO, BALTIC SUCCESS and SPARKLING KNIGHT were sent for sampling.

Passing the 700 Metres, ASSIMILATE commenced to prove very difficult to settle, got its head up and shifted out abruptly when being checked away from the heels of MAXIMUS. This resulted in WATER DIVINER becoming badly unbalanced after being bumped heavily on the hindquarters by ASSIMILATE. INVINCIBLE MISSILE, which was following ASSIMILATE, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. SKY FIELD, MIGHTY GIANT and BALLISTIC KING were sent for sampling.
