LA BOMBA and AURORA STEED bumped at the start. AURORA STEED then shifted out, resulting in SHOW MISSION losing ground when crowded for room inside TINKER BELLE which shifted in. EVERBRAVE shifted out at the start and bumped HAPPY WINNER. From the outside barriers, SPEEDY OPTIMIST and STRATHCLYDE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After travelling a short distance, U W BROTHER and LA BOMBA made contact. For some distance after the 800 Metres, TARGET FINDER proved very difficult to settle when being steadied to obtain cover. After shifting in to race behind TINKER BELLE, TARGET FINDER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse when continuing to travel keenly. Rounding the Home Turn, SPEEDY OPTIMIST was held up for clear running behind AURORA STEED. Near the 250 Metres, AURORA STEED raced in restricted room inside the heels of LA BOMBA which shifted in. AURORA STEED then continued to race tight inside LA BOMBA for some distance. Throughout the race, CHUNGHWA JINGSHEN travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of AURORA STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of LA BOMBA immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LA BOMBA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. U W BROTHER and FLYING MONKEY were sent for sampling.

28/10/2020  Class 5  Happy Valley  Turf  C+3  1800m   Going: GOOD  (2.7)   Rating: 038-021

SUCCESS ALLSTARS was withdrawn on 26.10.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ART OF RAW. Before being allowed to race again, SUCCESS ALLSTARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being loaded into the barriers, YES WE CAN reared abruptly and momentarily sat down, resulting in C Schofield being dislodged. YES WE CAN was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, YES WE CAN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. C Schofield was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and found to be fit to ride. After the race, C Schofield was again examined by the Chief Medical Officer who said he was fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements. HEALTHY TREASURE lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began awkwardly and then became unbalanced as a result of being bumped by MASTER ROMAN which shifted in. A short distance after this, HEALTHY TREASURE and MASTER ROMAN lost ground when crowded for room between GREEN GENERATION and ART OF RAW, both of which shifted ground. From the outside barriers, PRESIDENT STAR and HAPPY HOUR were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. Approaching the 1300 Metres, YES WE CAN was crowded for room between GREEN GENERATION and GENERAL DINO which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by YES WE CAN. Passing the 600 Metres, GENERAL DINO brushed the running rail. Near the 550 Metres, GREEN GENERATION was awkwardly placed behind KANBEKI MOLLY which came under pressure. GREEN GENERATION continued to be awkwardly placed behind KANBEKI MOLLY and then raced tight with YES WE CAN when improving between that horse and KANBEKI MOLLY passing the 450 Metres. MASTER ROMAN had some difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the Home Turn. Throughout the race, KANBEKI MOLLY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of YES WE CAN, C Schofield stated that the horse’s barrier manners did not play any part in the performance of the horse. He said YES WE CAN, which was racing at Happy Valley for the first time tonight, did not appear to appreciate racing amongst horses and the horse was reluctant to maintain its position between runners passing the 1300 Metres. He said after this YES WE CAN did not travel strongly and, in his opinion, is better suited to racing at Sha Tin as the tempo and style of racing at that track would suit the horse better at this early stage of its career. A veterinary inspection of YES WE CAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MASTER ROMAN and GREEN GENERATION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GREAT SMART and ART OF RAW were sent for sampling.

28/10/2020  Class 4  Happy Valley  Turf  C+3  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.7)   Rating: 060-041

THE ELITES lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently was slow to begin. GINTOKI shifted out at the start and inconvenienced RUN THE TABLE. Shortly after the start, HOT CHILI PEPPER was bumped by LUCKY QUALITY which shifted in after making contact with BULLISH BROTHER. From the outside barriers, SUN SUN FA FA, ROSSE SCARPE and DESTINE JEWELLERY were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1150 Metres, BULLISH BROTHER and SUPER EIGHTEEN raced tight. After being ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, SUPER EIGHTEEN was left racing very wide passing the 1000 Metres and then had to be ridden along for some distance to obtain a position outside the lead near the 700 Metres at which stage HOT CHILI PEPPER was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 850 Metres, GINTOKI and LUCKY QUALITY bumped. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, CARRY THE DIAMOND raced tight between HOT CHILI PEPPER and WHAT A LEGEND which made the Home Turn awkwardly. Approaching the 450 Metres, SUN SUN FA FA was steadied away from the heels of CARRY THE DIAMOND which was awkwardly placed behind LUCKY QUALITY. In the early part of the Straight, DESTINE JEWELLERY was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running. Near the 250 Metres, GINTOKI was disappointed for running between BULLISH BROTHER and SUPER EIGHTEEN. GINTOKI was then held up for clear running until approaching the 150 Metres. Passing the 250 Metres, WHAT A LEGEND raced in restricted room between LUCKY QUALITY and SUPER EIGHTEEN, both of which shifted ground. When racing tight, WHAT A LEGEND and LUCKY QUALITY made contact, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. After the race, Apprentice C L Chau (BULLISH BROTHER) stated that, in his opinion, the horse’s failure to finish off the race was due to the amount of use that he had to make of the horse for a considerable distance in the early stages to cross runners to his inside. He said he had to continually ride his mount along to clear LUCKY QUALITY and GINTOKI and it was not until approaching the 700 Metres that he was able to clear those horses. He said he tried to relax BULLISH BROTHER in the lead after this, however, the horse came under heavy pressure prior to the 200 Metres and then gave ground over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of BULLISH BROTHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GINTOKI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CARRY THE DIAMOND, WHAT A LEGEND and LUCKY QUALITY were sent for sampling.

28/10/2020  Class 4  Happy Valley  Turf  C+3  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.7)   Rating: 060-041

SPLIT OF A SECOND began only fairly. PRECISION DREAM got its head up on jumping and began awkwardly. MANNA FROM HEAVEN shifted out at the start and inconvenienced FRESH POWER. FANTASTIC FABIO and HARRIER JET bumped at the start. Shortly after the start, MANNA FROM HEAVEN and SPRINT FORWARD brushed. From the outside barrier, WON BALL was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 700 Metres, SPRINT FORWARD was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HARRIER JET. Also after the 700 Metres, FRESH POWER was left racing wide and without cover and making the turn near the 600 Metres was bumped by SPRINT FORWARD which shifted out away from the heels of HARRIER JET. For a considerable distance in the middle stages, PRECISION DREAM, which was having its first race start, got its head up and raced ungenerously. After changing his whip into his right hand near the 250 Metres, H N Wong (WON BALL) was momentarily restricted in his use of the whip approaching the 200 Metres when racing tight outside SUPREME PLUS. Close to the finishing line, HAPPILY FRIENDS raced tight inside SPRINT FORWARD and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. When questioned, B Shinn (HAPPY TIME) stated that he was initially asked to ride the horse quietly from the outside barrier, however, it was also acceptable for him to take up a forward position if HAPPY TIME began well as the horse had trialed well in preparation for tonight’s race when ridden in the lead. He said HAPPY TIME had also been ridden in a forward position in some of its races in the past. He said HAPPY TIME began only fairly but he soon formed the view that he would have had to make a lot of use of the horse to obtain a forward position without having to race wide and therefore elected to steady HAPPY TIME and shift across behind runners to obtain cover. He said approaching the 500 Metres he shifted out from behind MANNA FROM HEAVEN to follow SUPREME PLUS. He said passing the 500 Metres he became aware that WON BALL was improving its position around HAPPY TIME, however, as he believed that SUPREME PLUS would take him into the race and so as to avoid racing wide given that HAPPY TIME was first up tonight and carrying 127 lbs, he elected not to shift to the outside of SUPREME PLUS and attempted to obtain runs inside that horse in the early part of the Straight. He added he initially considered attempting to improve between SUPREME PLUS and FRESH POWER, but as SPRINT FORWARD was shifting FRESH POWER out at the entrance to the Straight to obtain clear running, he elected to direct HAPPY TIME to the outside of SUPREME PLUS and WON BALL and obtain clear running approaching the 200 Metres. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SUPREME PLUS at the request of Trainer F C Lor. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUPREME PLUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FANTASTIC FABIO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WHISKEY NEAT, HARRIER JET and SPRINT FORWARD were sent for sampling.

28/10/2020  Class 3  Happy Valley  Turf  C+3  1650m   Going: GOOD  (2.7)   Rating: 080-062

NABOO STAR, BRAVE KING and CHAMPION SUPREME were slow to begin. From a wide barrier, SUMSTREETSUMWHERE was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 900 Metres, SUMSTREETSUMWHERE and CHAMPION SUPREME bumped. Approaching the 200 Metres, FLYING SWORD was held up for clear running behind PRINCE OF FROG and inside SUPERBELLA. Passing the 200 Metres, SUPERBELLA and FLYING SWORD (Z Purton) raced tight as FLYING SWORD improved into very tight running between SUPERBELLA and PRINCE OF FROG. SUPERBELLA was then steadied near the 150 Metres when crowded for room between FLYING SWORD and CINQUANTE CINQ which shifted in marginally. In this incident, CINQUANTE CINQ became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by SUPERBELLA. Z Purton was advised to exercise more care when improving into tight runs in similar circumstances. When questioned, J Moreira stated that in the early stages he commenced to shift LEAP OF FAITH across behind runners firstly behind SUPERBELLA and then behind FLYING SWORD to obtain cover one horse off the rail. He said due to the circumstances of the race in the early stages he was not able to steady LEAP OF FAITH sufficiently to shift in behind FLYING SWORD which provided the opportunity for BEST ALLIANCE to be ridden along to obtain the position one horse off the rail inside LEAP OF FAITH. He said this resulted in LEAP OF FAITH being left racing wide and without cover approaching the 1300 Metres. He said he attempted to obtain a position behind REGENCY BO BO after the 1200 Metres, however, FLYING SWORD maintained its position to his inside which resulted in LEAP OF FAITH continuing to race wide and without cover. He said he considered allowing LEAP OF FAITH to stride forward after the 1000 Metres, but he noticed that REGENCY BO BO was travelling keenly in advance of LEAP OF FAITH one horse off the rail and he felt that if he allowed LEAP OF FAITH to improve its position at this time, REGENCY BO BO may improve its position with LEAP OF FAITH which would result in him having to make use of LEAP OF FAITH but continue to have to race wide and without cover. He added as LEAP OF FAITH was racing at Happy Valley for the first time tonight, he elected to remain racing in a three wide position but have the horse travelling comfortably so that it could finish off the race as best as it was able. A veterinary inspection of HELLO BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. NABOO STAR, BEST ALLIANCE and CINQUANTE CINQ were sent for sampling.

28/10/2020  Class 4  Happy Valley  Turf  C+3  1650m   Going: GOOD  (2.7)   Rating: 059-042

Prior to leaving the Parade Ring, HAPPY ICHIBAN became fractious, reared over and fell heavily, resulting in C Y Ho being dislodged. HAPPY ICHIBAN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said that the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, HAPPY ICHIBAN was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY ICHIBAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Y Ho was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. FEARLESS FIRE shifted out at the start, resulting in V CHEVALIERS and DIONYSUS COLLIN being crowded for room inside MALDIVES. After this, MALDIVES was steadied to obtain cover. After being steadied in the early stages to obtain cover, AMAZING LUCK shifted in and bumped V CHEVALIERS passing the winning post on the first occasion and then was left racing wide and without cover after the 1100 Metres. Despite being vigorously ridden for some distance in the early stages, KING’S RACE failed to muster speed. After the race, K Teetan stated that KING’S RACE did not travel well at any stage of the race. A veterinary inspection of KING’S RACE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. After the 1200 Metres, FEARLESS FIRE, which was travelling keenly, got its head up when awkwardly placed behind SHANGHAI GRACE. After this, FEARLESS FIRE continued to travel keenly and again got its head up when travelling close to the heels of SHANGHAI GRACE near the 1000 Metres. After the 1000 Metres, V CHEVALIERS shifted out away from the heels of KING’S RACE, resulting in DIONYSUS COLLIN being taken wider and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of FAITHFUL TRINITY after the 1300 Metres, V Borges explained that he was instructed to obtain a forward position on FAITHFUL TRINITY. He said he was told by the trainer not to become engaged in a speed battle if another horse was intent on leading and it was acceptable for him to take a trailing position in those circumstances. He said after riding his mount along in the early stages, he was able to obtain the lead after the 1600 Metres. He said passing the winning post on the first occasion he maintained the position in the anticipation that FAITHFUL TRINITY would be able to lead outright. He said approaching the 1300 Metres REGENCY MASTER was ridden along to clear runners to its inside and as he anticipated that that horse would continue on into the lead, he elected to allow REGENCY MASTER to cross FAITHFUL TRINITY and to take the position behind that horse. V Borges stated that although the tempo of the race was only moderate at this time, he was concerned that if he allowed his mount to maintain its position inside REGENCY MASTER, FAITHFUL TRINITY and REGENCY MASTER may become engaged in a speed duel and as this would be contrary to his instructions, he made the decision to allow that horse to cross FAITHFUL TRINITY passing the 1200 Metres. Mr W Y So, the trainer of FAITHFUL TRINITY, confirmed his instructions since taking over the horse had been consistent, that being to lead if possible, however, he also confirmed that he advised Jockey Borges to take a trailing position rather than have to ride his mount hard to either lead or maintain the lead. He said because of the tempo of the race in the early stages, he was of the view that Jockey Borges had erred in allowing REGENCY MASTER to cross FAITHFUL TRINITY near the 1200 Metres. He said, given the sectionals of the most recent race that the horse was successful in, he was of the opinion that Jockey Borges would not have had to make significant use of FAITHFUL TRINITY to maintain his position inside REGENCY MASTER. V Borges was severely reprimanded regarding his riding of FAITHFUL TRINITY after the 1300 Metres and advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had erred in failing to maintain his position inside REGENCY MASTER given the tempo of the race at the relevant time. He was told that whilst he had been given the option to obtain a trailing position rather than engage in a speed battle in the lead, they were not the circumstances of the race at the relevant stage and that he must ensure that he rides his mounts with sufficient judgement so that they are given every opportunity to finish off the race in the best possible position. A veterinary inspection of FAITHFUL TRINITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, M Chadwick was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of CALIFORNIA LEGEND. He said the horse was able to obtain a forward position without having to be ridden along, but after travelling satisfactorily throughout the middle stages came under pressure passing the 400 Metres and then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. REGENCY MASTER, V CHEVALIERS and PLAY WISE were sent for sampling.

Passing the 250 Metres, HARDLY SWEARS raced tight inside MEHBOOB which improved into tight running inside MIG ENERGY. After the 200 Metres, HARDLY SWEARS lay in and proved reluctant to shift to the outside of NEXTMODEL to obtain clear running. A veterinary inspection of MIG ENERGY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MIG ENERGY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SKY DARCI and STORM WARNINGS were sent for sampling.

CHIKORITA began only fairly. Shortly after the start, WIND N GRASS raced tight between HARMONY N HOME and TELECOM JAC which shifted in. LE TERROIR shifted in at the start and inconvenienced FALCON TURBO. When being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, BABY was bumped shortly after the tart by STANLEY PARK which shifted in. After travelling a short distance, GOOD BEAUTY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of FALCON TURBO which shifted in. Passing the 1100 Metres, LE TERROIR was crowded for room between FALCON TURBO and SHAMPORT which shifted in after becoming unbalanced as a result of being bumped by ISLAND SHINE (T Piccone) which got its head on the side and lay in. T Piccone was told that whilst the Stewards accepted that ISLAND SHINE had lay in at this stage and proved somewhat difficult, nonetheless he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground and making contact with other runners. When LE TERROIR was crowded for room, FALCON TURBO was bumped on the hindquarters by LE TERROIR, became unbalanced and shifted in, resulting in TELECOM JAC being steadied. After the 900 Metres, LE TERROIR was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 800 Metres, TORNADO TWIST was awkwardly placed behind TELECOM JAC. In the Straight, ISLAND SHINE lay in under pressure. Then over the over the concluding stages, TORNADO TWIST raced tight inside ISLAND SHINE which continued to lay in. Having regard to the neck margin between WIND N GRASS, 4th placegetter, and TELECOM JAC (N Callan), 5th placegetter, N Callan was told that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that his riding of the horse over the concluding stages did not affect its finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. Z Purton, the rider of TORNADO TWIST, will be interviewed prior to the Sha Tin Racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 1 November 2020 regarding the disappointing performance of the horse. A veterinary inspection of TORNADO TWIST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SHAMPORT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and also found the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SHAMPORT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHAMPORT, STANLEY PARK and FALCON TURBO were sent for sampling.

PACKING WALTHAM began only fairly and then was steadied away from the heels of ENRICHMENT which shifted in. AMAZING BEATS shifted in at the start and bumped AMAZING ONE PLUS. From wide barriers, STAR SHINE and KYRUS UNICORN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1600 Metres, RELIABLE TEAM was steadied away from the heels of BEAR AGAIN (V Borges) which shifted in when not properly clear. V Borges was reprimanded. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TIANCHI MONSTER and ENJOYING raced tight. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, TIANCHI MONSTER was steadied away from the heels of INSAYSHABLE (N Callan) which shifted in when not properly clear. N Callan was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances. AMAZING BEATS travelled wide and without cover in the early stages and after the 1300 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead near the 1000 Metres. Passing the 900 Metres, ENJOYING raced tight inside INSAYSHABLE which improve to be racing tight inside the heels of AMAZING ONE PLUS. After the 200 Metres, BEAR AGAIN shifted out under pressure. Passing the 100 Metres, RELIABLE TEAM, which was giving ground, was momentarily shifted out away from the heels of STAR SHINE which lay out under pressure. After the 100 Metres, ENRICHMENT was hampered by KYRUS UNICORN, which, when finishing off the race, was shifted to the outside of TIANCHI MONSTER to obtain clear running. After the race, Z Purton reported that RELIABLE TEAM travelled too keenly and would not relax. He said because RELIABLE TEAM would not settle, the horse was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of RELIABLE TEAM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned, K C Leung stated that he was asked to ride AMAZING ONE PLUS in about 5th or 6th position if possible. He said it was anticipated that RELIABLE TEAM would obtain a trailing position behind the leaders and it was hoped that AMAZING ONE PLUS would be able to obtain a trailing position behind that horse. He said after riding his mount positively to obtain a forward position in the early stages, he shifted across to race outside RELIABLE TEAM approaching the 1600 Metres and as there were already a number of runners which had occupied positions behind RELIABLE TEAM, he was left with no alternative but to allow his mount to stride forward of RELIABLE TEAM approaching the winning post on the first occasion to avoid covering unnecessary ground. He said after shifting across to race outside the leader passing the winning post on the first occasion, AMAZING ONE PLUS would then not settle and travelled too keenly. He said, despite his efforts, he could not get the horse to relax as it did at its last start when ridden more conservatively and because of the manner in which AMAZING ONE PLUS travelled in the early and middle stages, the horse was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING ONE PLUS immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING ONE PLUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The Stewards will interview Mr C S Shum, the trainer of AMAZING ONE PLUS, regarding the tactics adopted on that horse prior to the Sha Tin Racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 1 November 2020. A veterinary inspection of ENJOYING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. COLUMBUS COUNTY and BEAR AGAIN were sent for sampling.
