Close to the finishing line, VEGA RHYTHM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLDEN MISSION and consequently was not able to be fully tested over the concluding stages. Throughout the race, REGENCY POET travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SMART CHARADE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SMART CHARADE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. REGENCY POET, ALLOY STAR and UNIVERSAL CROWN were sent for sampling.

CLEAR CHOICE shifted out at the start and bumped GAMEPLAYER TIMES. SO WE JOY shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of STAR OF YUEN LONG. After this, from a wide barrier, SO WE JOY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. SKYEY SUPREME lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began only fairly. SKYEY SUPREME was then crowded for room between PING HAI TREASURE and TANGMERE which shifted out. SKYEY SUPREME was then ridden along in an attempt to obtain a forward position, however, continued to race tight between PING HAI TREASURE which shifted in marginally and TANGMERE which shifted out after becoming unbalanced as a result of being bumped on the hindquarters by SKYEY SUPREME and then racing tight outside PARTY EVERYDAY which lay out. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SKYEY SUPREME was steadied when unable to continue to attempt to improve between TANGMERE and PING HAI TREASURE which resulted in SKYEY SUPREME racing back in the field. SKYEY SUPREME was then awkwardly placed inside the heels of GAMEPLAYER TIMES passing the 1400 Metres and was checked away from the heels of GAMEPLAYER TIMES near the 1350 Metres as that horse raced tight inside NOTHING NEW which in turn was racing tight inside STAR OF YUEN LONG. When racing wide passing the winning post on the first occasion, XIANG YIN was steadied to obtain cover. After the 1100 Metres, GAMEPLAYER TIMES was left racing wide and without cover. PARTY EVERYDAY raced with its head on the side and lay out under pressure in the Straight, particularly over the concluding stages. TANGMERE lay out under pressure in the Straight. When questioned, Apprentice K H Chan (STAR OF YUEN LONG) stated that, from the outside barrier, he was asked to allow his mount to improve in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said in accordance with his instructions he allowed the horse to gradually improve its position in the early stages to clear NOTHING NEW near the 1000 Metres. He said he intended to continue forward of PARTY EVERYDAY which was racing on the rail and to do so gradually as he had made some use of STAR OF YUEN LONG to cross runners to his inside and the race was being run at a faster tempo than he would have hoped. He said when he commenced to cross PARTY EVERYDAY after the 900 Metres, he received a call from the rider of PARTY EVERYDAY and therefore he continued to allow his mount to improve with a view to crossing that horse. He said as PARTY EVERYDAY maintained its position inside the heels of STAR OF YUEN LONG, he felt that he would have had to ride his mount along to properly clear that horse and as he did not believe this was in the best interests of STAR OF YUEN LONG, he remained racing one horse off the rail to ensure that his horse was balanced and in the hope that this would benefit it in being able to finish off the race. Apprentice Chan was told that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had erred in not allowing his mount to improve its position such to cross PARTY EVERYDAY and race on the rail. He was advised that the Stewards felt that after the 750 Metres there was an opportunity to improve slightly without having to ride his mount along to clear PARTY EVERYDAY and race on the rail in the lead. He was further told to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner to obtain the best position during a race and not cover unnecessary ground. Apprentice Chan said after this STAR OF YUEN LONG came under pressure and then weakened out of the race over the concluding stages. He said the circumstances of today’s race were different from its last start when the horse finished second after being able to obtain a trailing position with cover during the race. He said STAR OF YUEN LONG may also have not appreciated today’s "Wet Slow” racing surface after performing well on a "Good” track at its most recent run. A veterinary inspection of STAR OF YUEN LONG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SKYEY SUPREME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of XIANG YIN immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, XIANG YIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SO WE JOY and PARTY EVERYDAY were sent for sampling.

From wide barriers, SMART COUSIN and EZRA were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1550 Metres, MORE THAN A HORSE got its head up when awkwardly placed behind JOYFUL HEART. AWE travelled keenly after the 1400 Metres and commenced to prove very difficult to settle passing the 700 Metres and was checked away from the heels of EXALTATION. Passing the 600 Metres, LEADING FORTUNE and EXALTATION raced tight as LEADING FORTUNE shifted out from behind STUNNING IMPACT. LEADING FORTUNE then raced tight between EXALTATION and STUNNING IMPACT after the 600 Metres. This resulted in LEADING FORTUNE and STUNNING IMPACT bumping passing the 550 Metres. STUNNING IMPACT was then awkwardly placed passing the 500 Metres between LEADING FORTUNE and DAILY CHARM which shifted out. JOYFUL HEART, which was following, was shifted out away from the heels of STUNNING IMPACT in consequence. H N Wong, the rider of SMART COUSIN, dropped his whip after passing the 50 Metres. Close to the finishing line, STUNNING IMPACT was awkwardly placed behind LEADING FORTUNE and consequently was not ridden out all the way to the end of the race. For the majority of the race, EXALTATION travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, C Y Ho (STUNNING IMPACT) stated that after racing outside and behind DAILY CHARM along the Back Straight, he attempted to improve his position after the 900 Metres to make up the ground between his mount and the leaders. He said STUNNING IMPACT immediately came under pressure and he had to ride his mount along stronger after the 800 Metres to try and improve his position. He said STUNNING IMPACT came under heavy pressure prior to the 600 Metres and would not respond to his riding. He said because of the manner in which STUNNING IMPACT raced in the middle stages, he recommended to connections that they consider adding blinkers to the gear of the horse in its future starts. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of EZRA, J Moreira stated that after shifting his mount across behind runners from a wide barrier in the early stages, EZRA was taken wider on a number of occasions after the 800 Metres as he attempted to improve his position. He said after making some ground near the 600 Metres, EZRA came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and got its head on the side and lay out. He said, despite being ridden along in the early part of the Straight, EZRA did not respond to his riding and then failed to finish off the race. He added EZRA did not stretch out in the Straight and did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of EZRA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, EZRA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, Z Purton stated that JOYFUL HEART was not suited by the slow tempo of the race in the early and middle stages. He said JOYFUL HEART was not able to get into a rhythm during the race and because of this was not able to quicken when placed under pressure and subsequently did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of JOYFUL HEART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The Stewards opened an inquiry into V Borges’ riding of DAILY CHARM for a considerable distance after the 1600 Metres. After taking evidence from V Borges and Mr C S Shum, the trainer of the horse, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry until a date to be fixed. JOYFUL HEART, SHANGHAI DRAGON and DAILY CHARM were sent for sampling.

A veterinary inspection of AMAZING CHOCOLATE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KURPANY, RED DESERT and SUNNY BOY were sent for sampling.

PERFECT TO GREAT began only fairly. BEAUTY SPIRIT shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of CHANCHENG PRINCE. From wide barriers, TURQUOISE ALPHA, WHAT A LEGEND and JOLLY HONOUR were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. After the 1000 Metres, MOERAKI travelled keenly after being crossed by TAKING AIM. After the 800 Metres, FLYING VICTORY was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 100 Metres, CHANCHENG PRINCE was bumped by TURQUOISE ALPHA which shifted out away from the heels of TRUST ME to continue improving. Also passing the 100 Metres, PERFECT TO GREAT shifted in under pressure, requiring its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount. When questioned, M L Yeung stated that it was hoped, from barrier 10, that EXCELLENT CHARIOT would be able to obtain a position with cover behind the speed. He said after beginning positively on EXCELLENT CHARIOT, he commenced to shift his mount across behind runners with a view to obtaining a trailing position behind TRUST ME. He said EXCELLENT CHARIOT, which was up in distance today, took some time to be able to steady in order to take up a trailing position behind TRUST ME which resulted in the horse being left racing wide and without cover after the 1000 Metres. He said, rather than remaining racing wide and covering unnecessary ground, he allowed his mount to improve its position after the 900 Metres to shift in to race outside the lead which resulted in EXCELLENT CHARIOT being ridden further forward today than had been anticipated. Mr P F Yiu, the trainer of EXCELLENT CHARIOT, confirmed the instructions were to obtain cover and he felt that this may be in about midfield or in advance of midfield. He said the circumstances of the race resulted in EXCELLENT CHARIOT being ridden more forward today than had been hoped. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHANCHENG PRINCE, C Y Ho stated that he was able to obtain a good position in advance of midfield in the early stages from barrier 2. He said CHANCHENG PRINCE travelled well in the early stages, however, he became concerned with the manner in which the horse was going to finish off the race when he had commenced riding it after the 700 Metres to maintain its position behind TRUST ME. He said CHANCHENG PRINCE came off the bridle and he had to ride the horse along more aggressively after the 600 Metres. He said CHANCHENG PRINCE did not respond to his riding rounding the Home Turn and did not quicken at any stage. He said, despite being ridden out in the Straight, CHANCHENG PRINCE was very disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. He added after the race he could detect nothing amiss with the horse which would explain its disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of CHANCHENG PRINCE immediately following the race found that horse to have a continuous displacement of the soft palate and also sustained minor lacerations to the right front and right hind fetlocks. Before being allowed to race again, CHANCHENG PRINCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHANCHENG PRINCE, TAKING AIM and PERFECT TO GREAT were sent for sampling.
