MURRAY’S PARTNERS was very slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, MURRAY’S PARTNERS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. RED ELYSEES (L Ferraris) began awkwardly and then was crowded for room between ZHAN JIANG ROCKS and VILLA FIONN, both of which shifted ground. This resulted in RED ELYSEES racing back in the field. After the race, L Ferraris confirmed that it was intended for RED ELYSEES to be ridden in a forward position in tonight’s race. After this incident, VILLA FIONN was steadied from the outside barrier and shifted across behind runners. Shortly after the start, METHANE was eased away from the heels of FAST PACE which shifted out. At the entrance to the Straight, VILLA FIONN was shifted in away from the heels of GOD OF DRAGON. Passing the 150 Metres, B Shinn (METHANE) dropped his right rein which he was able to regather after the 100 Metres. Over the concluding stages, METHANE shifted in under pressure. After the race, A Badel stated that he attempted to obtain a midfield position on ZHAN JIANG ROCKS, however, in the run to the winning post on the first occasion the horse was left racing wide and without cover. He said rather than continue to race wide, he allowed ZHAN JIANG ROCKS to improve its position to race outside the lead near the 1300 Metres. He said he was able to do this without having to make use of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS and after travelling satisfactorily in the middle stages the horse was then disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FAST PACE and METHANE were sent for sampling.

MING WARRIOR, SMART FOLKS and STAY CHILL were all steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SAVVY KINGMAN was slow to muster speed and after the 1600 Metres was steadied to obtain cover behind RUN THE TABLE. After the race, J Moreira confirmed that it was intended for SAVVY KINGMAN to be ridden in a more forward position, however, the circumstances of the race in the early stages resulted in the horse racing further back in the field than intended. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, RUN THE TABLE was tightened for room between SCHOLAR and MANNA FROM HEAVEN which got its head on the side and lay in away from RED MAJESTY. When MANNA FROM HEAVEN was shifted out to relieve the tightening to RUN THE TABLE, PEARL CHAMPION was inconvenienced. After being crossed by RED MAJESTY, SCHOLAR shifted out away from the heels of that horse approaching the 1300 Metres, resulting in MANNA FROM HEAVEN racing wide and without cover throughout. JOLLY HONOUR and RUN THE TABLE bumped passing the 600 Metres. Passing the 500 Metres, SAVVY KINGMAN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RUN THE TABLE. At the 400 Metres, SMART FOLKS was shifted out away from the heels of SAVVY KINGMAN (J Moreira) which shifted to the outside of PEARL CHAMPION to obtain clear running. Approaching the 250 Metres, MING WARRIOR was steadied when disappointed for running inside STAY CHILL (K C Leung) which shifted to the inside of JOLLY HONOUR when not clear of MING WARRIOR. K C Leung was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Passing the 200 Metres, RUN THE TABLE was inconvenienced when SAVVY KINGMAN shifted in under pressure. Passing the 100 Metres, STAY CHILL raced tight inside JOLLY HONOUR which shifted in. 22/09/2021  Class 5  Happy Valley  Turf  C+3  1650m   Going: GOOD TO FIRM  (2.7)   Rating: 039-020

On jumping, the left side ear plug carried by OFF THE REEL was dislodged as that horse was being assisted by the starting gate handler in the barriers. PRESIDENT STAR shifted out at the start and inconvenienced KA FORTUNE. BIG BANG BONG was hampered when steadied away from the heels of VICTORIOUS LEADER on jumping when that horse shifted out. RUN RUN GOOD shifted out at the start and bumped SHANGHAI GRACE. After this, despite being ridden along, SHANGHAI GRACE failed to muster speed. From wide barriers, ALL JOYFUL and SUPER KIN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. WONDERFUL TIGER got its head on the side and hung in rounding the Home Turn. Passing the 300 Metres, OFF THE REEL was shifted in away from the heels of WONDERFUL TIGER (A Hamelin) into tight running between that horse and KA FORTUNE. A Hamelin was advised to ensure that even in difficult circumstances he must make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground and causing interference to other runners. After this, OFF THE REEL had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Passing the 100 Metres, SUPER KIN (B Shinn) was directed to the outside of PRESIDENT STAR to improve into tight running between that horse and ANONYMA. As SUPER KIN was improving into the run, ANONYMA raced tight inside KA FORTUNE which, after getting its head on the side and shifting out, was then directed in by its rider and PRESIDENT STAR shifted out marginally under pressure. As SUPER KIN was improving into the run which became tighter as a result of PRESIDENT STAR shifting out and ANONYMA racing tight inside KA FORTUNE, SUPER KIN bumped ANONYMA and became unbalanced, causing SUPER KIN to shift out further and resulting in ANONYMA being checked when crowded for room between SUPER KIN and KA FORTUNE. BIG BANG BONG, which was following ANONYMA, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. The Stewards formed the opinion that at the time that B Shinn directed SUPER KIN out from behind PRESIDENT STAR and committed to improve between that horse and ANONYMA, there was sufficient room for him to be able to do so albeit the running was tight. The Stewards found that as a result of the marginal shift outwards from PRESIDENT STAR and ANONYMA then racing tight inside KA FORTUNE, this resulted in the run between PRESIDENT STAR and ANONYMA tightening. As there were a number of factors associated with this incident, B Shinn was advised that he was given the benefit of the doubt in respect of improving into tight running between PRESIDENT TAR and ANONYMA. He was told that when improving into tight runs, he exercises due care to ensure that other horses are not adversely affected as a result of his movement. Throughout the race, CENTENARY IBIS travelled wide and without cover. After the race, A Badel was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of RUN RUN GOOD. He said the horse may not have appreciated the "Good to Firm” track condition racing first up tonight as RUN RUN GOOD seemed to be reluctant to fully stretch out in the race. A veterinary inspection of RUN RUN GOOD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of VICTORIOUS LEADER, K C Leung stated that his mount did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He said VICTORIOUS LEADER was always off the bridle and was never able to settle into a rhythm. He said the only explanation he could offer for the horse’s disappointing performance was that it may be better suited to racing at Sha Tin, a track it was successful at its last start. He said for this reason he recommended to connections that they consider returning VICTORIOUS LEADER to Sha Tin for its future starts. A veterinary inspection of VICTORIOUS LEADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of VICTORIOUS LEADER, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VICTORIOUS LEADER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of ANONYMA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KA FORTUNE, ALL JOYFUL and PRESIDENT STAR were sent for sampling.

Despite being ridden along for some distance after the start, WILD WEST WING failed to muster speed. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, WILD WEST WING, which was racing tight outside GUNNISON, became unbalanced, shifted out abruptly and made the turn awkwardly. K H Chan (WINE AND WINE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 700 Metres as he steadied his mount to obtain cover behind HEART CONQUERED, he permitted WINE AND WINE to shift in when not clear of GUNNISON, resulting in that horse having to be checked away from the heels of WINE AND WINE and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. In the circumstances, K H Chan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 17 October 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 21 October 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). From the outside barriers, INDICATIVE VOTE and VINCY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1600 Metres, NOTHING NEW was awkwardly placed between NORDIC SKY and GOLDEN SPECTRUM. When being steadied to obtain cover behind NORDIC SKY, NOTHING NEW got its head up and raced ungenerously for a number of strides when racing tight inside the heels of GOLDEN SPECTRUM. SUPERBELLA, which had shifted in from behind NOTHING NEW, was then awkwardly placed between that horse and VINCY passing the winning post on the first occasion. After the 1500 Metres, XIANG BAI QI raced tight inside DYNAMIC EAGLE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from WEALTHY DELIGHT (Z Purton). DYNAMIC EAGLE then raced tight inside WEALTHY DELIGHT approaching the winning post on the first occasion and then shifted in further away from that horse, resulting in XIANG BAI QI being steadied away from the heels of DYNAMIC EAGLE when unable to maintain its position inside that horse passing the winning post on the first occasion. Z Purton was advised that whilst the Stewards were of the opinion that DYNAMIC EAGLE’s racing manners had contributed to this incident, nonetheless they were of the opinion that he had allowed his mount to shift in and crowded the room of XIANG BAI QI and DYNAMIC EAGLE. Accordingly, he was reprimanded and told to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances. Approaching the 1100 Metres, NOTHING NEW, which was travelling keenly, got its head up when awkwardly placed behind NORDIC SKY. Near the 650 Metres, GOLDEN SPECTRUM raced tight outside the heels of NORDIC SKY which was taken out by DYNAMIC EAGLE. Making the turn near the 600 Metres, DYNAMIC EAGLE got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of MEANINGFUL STAR. He said he was unable to prevent horses from shifting out to his inside along the Back Straight and GOLDEN SPECTRUM was already under heavy pressure after the 600 Metres. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN SPECTRUM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN SPECTRUM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TELECOM ROCKET shifted out at the start and bumped SEVEN HEAVENS. MIGHTY VALOR began awkwardly. HERE COMES TED got its head up on jumping and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From wide barriers, LIKE THAT and RHAPSODY were also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. After the 1000 Metres, HARMONY N HOME commenced to travel keenly and was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of TELECOM ROCKET. Approaching the 900 Metres, QUADRUPLE DOUBLE was momentarily awkwardly placed behind MIGHTY VALOR, MIGHTY VALOR lay out along the Back Straight. Approaching the 200 Metres, TELECOM ROCKET and HARRIER JET raced tight. Throughout the race, HIGH RISE SOLDIER travelled wide and without cover. After the race, A Badel stated that after beginning only fairly, DECISIVE TWELVE was then bumped by QUADRUPLE DOUBLE. He said he then had to ride his mount along in the early stages in order for DECISIVE TWELVE to obtain a forward position. He said when racing outside QUADRUPLE DOUBLE, DECISIVE TWELVE travelled too keenly in the middle stages and would not relax. He said because of the manner in which DECISIVE TWELVE was travelling, he allowed the horse to improve its position after the 800 Metres to clear MIGHTY VALOR rather than fight his horse. He said by doing this he hoped that DECISIVE TWELVE would relax better. He added DECISIVE TWELVE came under pressure at the entrance to the Straight and then after giving him a limited response in the early part of the Straight then weakened over the concluding stages. He said, in his opinion, DECISIVE TWELVE’s failure to finish off the race was attributable to the horse racing too keenly in the middle stages. A veterinary inspection of DECISIVE TWELVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Also after the race, J Moreira was not able to offer any explanation for the manner in which MIGHTY VALOR weakened noticeably in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of MIGHTY VALOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Having given consideration to the fact that at its most recent start the rider of MIGHTY VALOR reported that the horse’s action deteriorated in the latter stages which resulted in him easing it down over the final 200 Metres and that MIGHTY VALOR had been found to be lame after a number of its recent races, the Steward will refer this matter to the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy for further diagnostic assessments. Subject to this assessment, the Stewards ruled that MIGHTY VALOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. QUADRUPLE DOUBLE, SEVEN HEAVENS and TRANSCENDENT were sent for sampling.
