Trainer T P Yung was fined $3,000 for presenting GENERAL TRUMP in the Parade Ring without a parade hood, part of that horse’s declared gear. SMILING FACE was checked on jumping when badly crowded for room between HOLYSHOWCASING and TIGERLAD which shifted out abruptly. In this incident, HOLYSHOWCASING also became badly unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by SMILING FACE. After this, despite being vigorously ridden along for some distance, TIGERLAD failed to muster speed. ALL THE WAY shifted out at the start and bumped QIPAO BOSS which in turn shifted out which resulted in THE ELITES being crowded for room inside FOREVER CITY which shifted in on jumping. After this, FOREVER CITY was steadied to obtain cover. GENERAL TRUMP began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped DRAGON KINGDOM. After travelling a short distance, GENERAL TRUMP and DRAGON KINGDOM bumped. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, HOLYSHOWCASING was checked when crowded for room inside QIPAO BOSS (A Badel) which got its head on the side and shifted in away from DRAGON KINGDOM. A Badel was advised that he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he had made sufficient effort and in a timely manner to correct QIPAO BOSS. He was severely reprimanded and told to make every endeavour to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances. Passing the 700 Metres, GENERAL TRUMP was left racing wide and without cover. RUN RUN GOOD had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. GENERAL TRUMP lay in under pressure in the Straight. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that QIPAO BOSS had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON KINGDOM, HOLYSHOWCASING and ONE STEP AHEAD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. AMAZING KNIGHT, THE ELITES and RUN RUN GOOD were sent for sampling.

27/10/2021  Class 2  Shatin  All Weather Track    1650m   Going: GOOD  (9.77)    Rating: 102-082

WISHFUL THINKER began only fairly. HELENE WISDOM STAR shifted out at the start, resulting in THE ROCK being crowded for room inside TELECOM FIGHTERS. Approaching the 1400 Metres, THE ROCK was awkwardly placed inside the heels of RED DESERT. Then near the 1100 Metres, THE ROCK raced close to the heels of RED DESERT. When questioned regarding the performance of HONGKONG GREAT, Z Purton stated that in the early stages HONGKONG GREAT did not show much early speed as it had when ridden by him in the past. He said HONGKONG GREAT normally travels very strongly in its races, however, the horse was not able to show sufficient speed to cross KINGS SHIELD to its inside and lead as had been anticipated. He said when HONGKONG GREAT was unable to cross KINGS SHIELD, he was left with no alternative but to steady to that horse’s outside and when he did this, HONGKONG GREAT did not travel as strongly as it normally does in its races. He added at the 1000 Metres HONGKONG GREAT was already travelling only fairly and he was required to place the horse under heavy pressure after the 700 Metres as it was losing ground on KINGS SHIELD, the leader of the race. He said despite being placed under pressure, HONGKONG GREAT immediately commenced to give ground and did not feel comfortable in its action. He said HONGKONG GREAT gave ground noticeably after the 500 Metres and as he was concerned with the horse’s welfare, he eased it down rounding the Home Turn at which stage the horse was already well beaten. He further stated that when easing the horse down in the Straight, he was not able to detect any reason for the manner in which it gave ground and therefore he was of the opinion that there may have been an internal issue which impacted upon the horse’s performance tonight. A veterinary inspection of HONGKONG GREAT immediately following the race found that horse to be displaying an epiglottic entrapment with associated ulceration which, in his opinion, has a potential to adversely affect the breathing and performance of HONGKONG GREAT. The Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, HONGKONG GREAT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The Veterinary Officer reported that the matter involving the epiglottic entrapment would be discussed with Mr C S Shum, the trainer of HONG KONG GREAT. After the race, K Teetan stated that passing the 150 Metres HELENE WISDOM STAR got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly which resulted in him becoming badly unbalanced and almost being dislodged. He said, in his opinion, HELENE WISDOM STAR attempted to shy away from the staff and apparatus associated with the start of the race. A veterinary inspection of HELENE WISDOM STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, HELENE WISDOM STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HONGKONG GREAT, KINGS SHIELD and THE ROCK were sent for sampling.

On jumping, ANONYMA stumbled badly, resulting in its rider, H W Lai, being dislodged. SPEED FORCE shifted out at the start and bumped SHANGHAI GRACE which was crowded for room inside HAPPY JAI JAI which began awkwardly and shifted in. Despite being vigorously ridden for a considerable distance in the early stages, MISTER MONTE (H T Mo) failed to muster speed. H T Mo stated that despite him riding his mount along continually throughout the race, MISTER MONTE did not respond to his riding and was never comfortable at any stage of the race and gave ground noticeably over the final 700 Metres. A veterinary inspection of MISTER MONTE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of MISTER MONTE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MISTER MONTE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being ridden along for some distance shortly after the start, from a wide barrier, CROWN AVENUE was shifted across behind runners approaching the winning post on the first occasion. From the outside barrier, TURF BRILLIANT was steadied to obtain cover. AMAZING LUCK travelled keenly in the early stages when being steadied to obtain cover behind MISTER MONTE. Then passing the winning post on the first occasion, AMAZING LUCK was awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of STRATHMARTINE which became unbalanced. MISTER ARM travelled wide and without cover until the 700 Metres. Approaching the 400 Metres, HAPPY JAI JAI and AMAZING LUCK bumped, resulting in HAPPY JAI JAI becoming unbalanced and shifting out which caused AMAZING LUCK to be crowded for room inside MISTER ARM which, when under heavy pressure, got its head on the side and shifted in marginally. After the race, C Schofield stated that RUBY STARS did not travel strongly at any stage of the race. He said the horse came under heavy pressure near the 700 Metres and then gave ground noticeably over the latter stages. The performance of RUBY STARS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RUBY STARS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of RUBY STARS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of ANONYMA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FIGURES TWO, LUCKY VICTOR and TURF BRILLIANT were sent for sampling.

27/10/2021  Shatin  Race 4 Steward Report

27/10/2021  Class 4  Shatin  All Weather Track    1200m   Going: GOOD  (9.77)    Rating: 058-041

MASTER AQUA was withdrawn on 26.10.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter HAPPY TANGO (K H Chan). Before being allowed to race again, MASTER AQUA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. EVERYONE’S VICTORY was bumped on jumping by FORTUNE HAPPINESS which was taken out by AQUILA. VALIANT ELEGANCE shifted out at the start and bumped INDIGENOUS FELLOW which in turn shifted out abruptly, resulting in ALMIGHTY PEGASUS being crowded for room inside STEEL WIN which became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by ALMIGHTY PEGASUS. HAPPY TANGO shifted out abruptly at the start and inconvenienced MAGIC SUPREME. Near the 1100 Metres, STEEL WIN got its head on the side, lay in and inconvenienced INDIGENOUS FELLOW. Shortly after entering the Straight, FORTUNE HAPPINESS shifted in away from the heels of STEEL WIN and towards the heels of AQUILA, resulting in its rider having to correct FORTUNE HAPPINESS. Passing the 200 Metres, JOYFUL GENIUS became unbalanced when being shifted out away from the heels of SUPER MISSION which shifted out. INDIGENOUS FELLOW lay out under pressure in the Straight. The performance of ALMIGHTY PEGASUS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ALMIGHTY PEGASUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. K H Chan, the rider of HAPPY TANGO, was warned against the practice of shifting his mounts in at an acute angle. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HAPPY TANGO, K H Chan stated that, in his opinion, the horse did not appreciate having VALIANT ELEGANCE and in particular MAGIC SUPREME racing to its outside. He said when taken on in the lead by MAGIC SUPREME, HAPPY TANGO would not relax and came under pressure after the 500 Metres. He said HAPPY TANGO then gave ground noticeably in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY TANGO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, L Ferraris stated that AQUILA got its head on the side and lay out making the first turn near the 700 Metres. He said when this happened, his saddle shifted to the left, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. A veterinary inspection of AQUILA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUPER MISSION, K Teetan stated that it was hoped that SUPER MISSION would be able to obtain a position in about midfield from barrier 9. He said SUPER MISSION had previously trialed well on the surface when ridden from off the speed and it was hoped that riding the horse in a similar manner tonight would afford it the best opportunity to finish off the race. He said after steadying his mount to obtain cover, he had to ride it along after the 1100 Metres as SUPER MISSION appeared to be resenting the kickback. He said after this he kept SUPER MISSION racing wide along the Back Straight in the hope that the horse would travel better, however, making the turn near the 700 Metres he was required to shift SUPER MISSION across to a position closer to the rail to avoid racing unnecessarily wide. He added making the turn after the 700 Metres SUPER MISSION lay out which made it difficult for him to improve into running which was available between FORTUNE HAPPINESS and YOUNG VICTORY after the 600 Metres. He said after briefly being awkwardly placed behind FORTUNE HAPPINESS near the 500 Metres, SUPER MISSION came under heavy pressure and then after racing in restricted room between YOUNG VICTORY and JOYFUL GENIUS at the entrance to the Straight did not finish off the race over the concluding stages. He said based on the disappointing performance of SUPER MISSION tonight, he did recommend to connections that they consider reverting back to racing on the turf as this is the surface that SUPER MISSION had previously raced well on. A veterinary inspection of SUPER MISSION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER MISSION, MAGIC SUPREME and EVERYONE’S VICTORY were sent for sampling.

27/10/2021  Shatin  Race 5 Steward Report

27/10/2021  Class 4  Shatin  All Weather Track    1800m   Going: GOOD  (9.77)    Rating: 060-040

Just prior to the start being effected, TELECOM CHEETAH became fractious, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. Also as the start was effected, SUPER FAST got its head down and to the left which resulted in the horse being slow to begin, shifting out and bumping TELECOM CHEETAH, causing both horses to become unbalanced. This resulted in SUPER FAST racing back in the field. FLASH FAMOUS shifted out on jumping and bumped the hindquarters of SMART FOLKS. LONDON LUCKYSTAR began awkwardly and then was bumped by OH BRAVO which shifted out. This resulted in LONDON LUCKYSTAR being taken out onto VICTORIOUS SEEKER and DIONYSUS COLLIN which were inconvenienced. After this, VICTORIOUS SEEKER and DIONYSUS COLLIN were steadied to obtain cover. From the outside barriers, YES WE CAN and SURE WIN WIN were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, DOUBLE TAKE was steadied when crowded for room inside UNITE SPIRIT when racing tight inside OH BRAVO which, after initially shifting in of its own accord, then raced tight inside LONDON LUCKYSTAR. In the early stages, VICTORIOUS SEEKER was left racing wide and without cover and after the 1000 Metres was allowed to improve into a more forward position, however, continued to race wide and without cover. After the 600 Metres, DOUBLE TAKE raced in restricted room when attempting to improve between LONDON LUCKYSTAR and VICTORIOUS SEEKER where there was insufficient room. After the 150 Metres, C L Chau (FLASH FAMOUS) dropped his left rein which he was able to regather passing the 100 Metres. In the Straight, PARTY EVERYDAY lay out under pressure. When questioned regarding LONDON LUCKYSTAR being ridden in a more forward position, K Teetan stated that in the Parade Ring prior to the start, he recommended to connections that they gave consideration to riding the horse positively in the early stages and obtaining a forward position. He said it was felt that SUPER FAST would be ridden to lead from barrier 1 and given that SUPER FAST was a good chance in the race carrying 133 lbs with LONDON LUCKYSTAR only being required to carry 113 lbs, it would be advantageous for LONDON LUCKYSTAR not to have to give that horse to much start. He said it was therefore agreed that he should ride LONDON LUCKYSTAR positively in the early stages and attempt to obtain a position behind SUPER FAST. He said it was also noted that earlier winners of tonight’s races had been successful when being ridden on the speed. He said after beginning well he rode his mount along and when it was apparent to him that SUPER FAST was not able to lead as had been anticipated, he therefore continued forward with OH BRAVO in the early stages. He said when OH BRAVO took some time to cross runners to its inside, this resulted in him having to do more work than he had hoped and having to race outside the lead rather than behind the speed which had been envisaged. A veterinary inspection of LONDON LUCKYSTAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding OH BRAVO being ridden in a forward position, A Badel stated that with the step-up to 1800 Metres tonight and OH BRAVO having drawn reasonably in barrier 7, it was felt that the opportunity presented itself for the horse to be ridden in a more forward position than had been the case. He said he was asked to ride OH BRAVO in the first four but was not under any specific instructions as to lead or to take a trailing position behind the lead. He said after beginning well he rode OH BRAVO along in the early stages and felt that he was going to obtain a forward position relatively easily, however, runners to his inside maintained their positions which resulted in him having to do more work on OH BRAVO than had been anticipated. He added OH BRAVO travelled fairly in the lead in the middle stages, however, came under pressure prior to the Home Turn and then did not finish off the race. He added based on the manner in which OH BRAVO raced tonight, he did recommend to connections that they consider dropping the horse back in distance in its future starts and riding it more conservatively. A veterinary inspection of OH BRAVO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SUPER FAST immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration on the chest which was most likely caused by the breast plate. SUPER FAST, PARTY EVERYDAY and VICTORIOUS SEEKER were sent for sampling.

When being ridden along approaching the first turn near the 700 Metres, BLOTTING PAPER became unbalanced of its own accord. At the entrance to the Straight, AMAZING TEENS got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of POISED TO STRIKE. A veterinary inspection of BORDER CONTROL and SUNNY DELIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. From the outside barrier, SMART PATCH was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, STAR PERFORMANCE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GAMEPLAYER TIMES when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse. After being loaded into the barriers, ASTROLOGER became very fractious and reared abruptly and in doing so struck its head on the overhead bar. ASTROLOGER also got its both front legs over into the adjoining stall occupied by SUNSET WATCH. ASTROLOGER was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, ASTROLOGER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, ASTROLOGER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUNSET WATCH was also removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that the horse was suitable to race. WAR OF COURAGE stumbled at the start. MEGA HEART shifted out at the start and was steadied away from the heels of BRILLIANT FORTUNE which began awkwardly. From wide barriers, SUNSET WATCH and SUPER WIN DRAGON were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the 1100 Metres, ELON was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GOOD HEALTH which shifted out. After the 900 Metres, both GOOD HEALTH and GUNNISON were left racing wide and without cover. After the 500 Metres, MEGA HEART was held up behind WAR OF COURAGE. After the race, K Teetan reported that WAR OF COURAGE, which was having its first start on the All Weather surface tonight, made the turn near the 700 Metres awkwardly and became unbalanced. He said after this WAR OF COURAGE immediately came off the bridle and despite being vigorously ridden along rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight weakened out of the race. A veterinary inspection of WAR OF COURAGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Also after the race, C Schofield stated that when racing back in the field, NORTHERN DRAGON appeared to resent the kickback as the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He said NORTHERN DRAGON came under heavy pressure prior to the 700 Metres and then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of NORTHERN DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY MOUSE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY MOUSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
