He said after ALL YOU KNOW began well and as he was of the opinion that there was not a lot of speed engaged in tonight’s race, he elected to ride ALL YOU KNOW positively in the early stages and attempt to obtain a position behind the leaders. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion ALL YOU KNOW was left racing in a three wide position in advance of midfield and as it was not possible for him to obtain cover at this stage, he elected to allow ALL YOU KNOW to continue improving its position forward of RUBY STARS after the 1200 Metres to race outside the lead passing the 1100 Metres. He said when he made the decision to allow ALL YOU KNOW to improve its position, he felt that the pace was commencing to slacken and therefore ALL YOU KNOW was able to improve without having to be ridden along. MISTER ARM (V Borges) began only fairly and shifted out abruptly, resulting in V CHEVALIERS being crowded for room inside CHATER PINS which also shifted in. After this, despite being ridden along for some distance, MISTER ARM failed to muster speed. After the race, V Borges said that after failing to show speed in the early stages, MISTER ARM was required to race much further back in the field than had been anticipated and after travelling only fairly in the run then finished the race off only one-paced in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of MISTER ARM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BIG TWO shifted out on jumping and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of VILLA FIONN. From wide barriers, ERNEST FEELING and MURRAY’S PARTNERS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. ERNEST FEELING made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of MISTER ARM, resulting in MURRAY’S PARTNERS, which was racing outside ERNEST FEELING, being hampered. Rounding the Home Turn, AMAZING NEWS was awkwardly placed behind COURAGEOUS KNIGHT. Approaching the 200 Metres, ERNEST FEELING shifted out and inconvenienced MISTER ARM. When questioned, C Y Ho (AMAZING NEWS) stated that rounding the Home Turn he shifted out from behind COURAGEOUS KNIGHT with a view to improving to the outside of SPEED FAY FAY and inside VILLA FIONN in the early part of the Straight to obtain clear running. He said at the entrance to the Straight he was racing about a neck behind VILLA FIONN and because of this was not able to shift that horse out. He said VILLA FIONN then shifted to the outside of SPEED FAY FAY which resulted in him not being able to improve to the outside of SPEED FAY FAY. He said at this time a run appeared to the inside of SPEED FAY FAY and outside COURAGEOUS KNIGHT and as this run was available and there was no clear running to the outside of SPEED FAY FAY at this time, he shifted his mount to the inside of that horse to obtain clear running. He said when SPEED FAY FAY (C L Chau) shifted in passing the 300 Metres, this resulted in a run becoming available to the outside of that horse and inside VILLA FIONN, however, at this time he had already committed to improving inside SPEED FAY FAY. He said after initially racing tight inside SPEED FAY FAY, AMAZING NEWS was then disappointed for running passing the 200 Metres between that horse and COURAGEOUS KNIGHT (H Bentley) which shifted out away from the heels of BIG TWO. He said he did give consideration to steadying his mount and coming to the outside of SPEED FAY FAY, however, he believed that he would have had to give ground to do so and in the process lose momentum and therefore he continued to pursue the running between SPEED FAY FAY and COURAGEOUS KNIGHT. He added that it was not until approaching the 100 Metres that AMAZING NEWS was able to obtain clear running. C Y Ho was told that his explanation was accepted. C L Chau was reprimanded and H Bentley advised to exercise more care regarding the shifts of their horses after the 300 Metres. AMAZING NEWS, V CHEVALIERS and CHATER PINS were sent for sampling.

SUPER RED DRAGON was slow to begin. LAPUTA shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of VITRALITE, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. From wide barriers, BULLETPROOF and NEARLY FINE were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, LAPUTA was shifted in away from the heels of VITRALITE after being crowded for room inside that horse which initially shifted in, then got its head on the side and shifted in further away from GO FOR TEA. Passing the 300 Metres, VITRALITE and TOYCOON raced tight. As TOYCOON was giving ground near the 250 Metres, that horse was steadied away from the heels of LAPUTA (C Y Ho) which shifted out under pressure. C Y Ho was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. MORE THAN ENOUGH shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Close to the finishing line, DR WINNING was awkwardly placed behind MORE THAN ENOUGH. The Stewards questioned V Borges regarding his riding of SUPER RED DRAGON from near the 1100 Metres until passing the 600 Metres. V Borges stated that it was his intention to shift SUPER RED DRAGON across to the rail after the 1100 Metres to follow LAPUTA. He said as he did this, he received a call from A Badel, the rider of PASSING FASHION, which was racing to the inside of the heels of SUPER RED DRAGON. He said he allowed his mount to improve to be racing closer behind DR WINNING passing the 1000 Metres in an attempt to clear PASSING FASHION and race on the rail. He said on a number of occasions after the 1100 Metres, he continued to receive calls from Jockey Badel to inform him that he was not clear to cross PASSING FASHION. A Badel subsequently confirmed to the Stewards that he called to V Borges on numerous occasions as PASSING FASHION was having difficulty improving its position inside SUPER RED DRAGON, however, he did not wish to be crossed by that horse so as to maintain as prominent a position as possible. V Borges was told that after having a number of looks to his inside after the 1100 Metres, he should have satisfied himself that it was not available to him to shift to race on the rail without causing interference to PASSING FASHION, therefore a number of looks that he had to his inside after the 900 Metres were in the circumstances not necessary. He was reminded that he had previously been spoken to by the Stewards regarding looking around in races and that he must desist in this practice other than when ensuring that safety is not compromised. A veterinary inspection of TOYCOON and PASSING FASHION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. MORE THAN ENOUGH and BULLETPROOF were sent for sampling.

Near the 450 Metres, SCOTCH TYCOON was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of PRETTY QUEEN PRAWN which shifted in marginally. At the entrance to the Straight, SCOTCH TYCOON raced tight inside PRETTY QUEEN PRAWN. Passing the 200 Metres, STAR OF WUYI shifted out under pressure and bumped AQUILA which became unbalanced. Also passing the 200 Metres, FABULOUS EIGHT shifted out marginally under pressure. SCOTCH TYCOON, which was following FABULOUS EIGHT, was shifted to the inside of that horse in an attempt to improve to its inside. FABULOUS EIGHT then shifted in marginally as SCOTCH TYCOON was endeavouring to improve inside the heels of FABULOUS EIGHT which resulted in SCOTCH TYCOON being shifted in and bumping GANG OF BROTHERS. SCOTCH TYCOON then became unbalanced and shifted out towards the heels of FABULOUS EIGHT. SCOTCH TYCOON then raced in restricted room between FABULOUS EIGHT and GANG OF BROTHERS until the concluding stages. Because of these incidents, SCOTCH TYCOON was not able to be properly tested over about the final 200 Metres. Close to the finishing line, GANG OF BROTHERS shifted in, resulting in TRUST ME having to be steadied away from the heels of that horse. Because of this, TRUST ME was not able to be properly tested over about the final 75 Metres. Throughout the race, PRETTY QUEEN PRAWN travelled wide and without cover. After the race, J Moreira stated that after coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn, FABULOUS EIGHT initially responded satisfactorily to his riding in the early part of the Straight, however, over about the final 150 Metres came under pressure and then weakened over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of FABULOUS EIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CIRCUIT SEVEN and FORTE were sent for sampling.

LEAP OF FAITH shifted out at the start and bumped KOWLOON GREAT which was crowded for room inside KINDA COOL. GIFT OF LIFELINE was crowded for room on jumping between SKY FOREVER and SMILING TIME which shifted out when being steadied to obtain cover. V Borges was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. MALDIVES then shifted out into clear running between LEAP OF FAITH and OSCAR GLORY near the 250 Metres and then passing the 200 Metres was inconvenienced by OSCAR GLORY which shifted out marginally under pressure. Immediately after the race, the Stewards considered whether to post the inquiry sign into the incident at the 300 Metres involving LEAP OF FAITH and MALDIVES. The Stewards were of the opinion that MALDIVES had obtained clear running inside LEAP OF FAITH near the 200 Metres and that horse did not shift any further ground and given that MALDIVES, after being momentarily awkwardly placed outside OSCAR GLORY passing the 200 Metres, then had clear running for the remainder of the race and having regard to the manner in which the two horses finished the race off over the concluding stages, they elected not to post the inquiry sign. After the race, Z Purton viewed the videos of the incident and the concluding stages of the race and elected not to enter a protest/objection on behalf of the connections of MALDIVES. Passing the 300 Metres, FEARLESS FIRE was momentarily held up behind OSCAR GLORY. FEARLESS FIRE was then shifted to the inside of OSCAR GLORY passing the 200 Metres to obtain clear running. After the race, A Badel stated that after being steadied in the early stages to obtain cover from a wide barrier, SKY FOREVER was not suited by the moderate tempo of tonight’s race. He said, in his opinion, because of this SKY FOREVER was not able to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of SKY FOREVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. OSCAR GLORY, LEAP OF FAITH and MALDIVES were sent for sampling.

CALIFORNIA SKY shifted out at the start and bumped GOLD MARQUIS which in turn shifted out and inconvenienced MERIDIAN GENIUS. After this, from a wide barrier, GOLD MARQUIS was steadied and shifted across behind runners. From the outside barrier, STOCK LEGEND was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Near the 1050 Metres, after being shifted to the inside of ASTROLOGER, TURIN WARRIOR raced tight inside that horse which got its head on the side and lay in when being ridden along. Passing the 1000 Metres, STOCK LEGEND was checked when crowded for room inside GOLD MARQUIS (B Shinn) which, when being steadied to obtain cover behind DECISIVE TWELVE, got its head on the side and shifted in further. Whilst the Stewards accepted that the racing manners of GOLD MARQUIS at this time by laying in had contributed to this incident, nonetheless B Shinn was reprimanded and told to exercise due care when shifting ground to ensure that he does not cause interference to other runners. Also passing the 1000 Metres, COLONEL got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOLLY GOOD HEART. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, TURIN WARRIOR raced tight inside ASTROLOGER which again got its head on the side and lay in. GOLD MARQUIS, which was following TURIN WARRIOR, made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of DECISIVE TWELVE. In the early part of the Straight, GOLD MARQUIS got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. Throughout the race, H Z TOURBILLON (M F Poon) travelled very wide and without cover and rounding the Home Turn stumbled. After the race, M F Poon reported that after stumbling, he became concerned regarding the action of H Z TOURBILLON and for this reason he eased the horse down in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection of H Z TOURBILLON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, H Z TOURBILLON will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, A SMILE LIKE YOURS also travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, C Y Ho stated that he was instructed to obtain a midfield position with cover on DECISIVE TWELVE as it was considered that tonight’s race would be run at a good tempo given that there were a number of runners engaged which have previously taken up forward positions in their races. He said in accordance with his instructions he steadied DECISIVE TWELVE in the early stages to obtain cover behind ASTROLOGER which was being ridden along after the 1100 Metres. He said DECISIVE TWELVE travelled keenly for some distance after the 1000 Metres, however, settled better after the 800 Metres. He added that DECISIVE TWELVE, a horse which he knows well, appeared to be reluctant to race amongst runners tonight as the horse did not want to stretch out rounding the Home Turn when racing between TURIN WARRIOR and CALIFORNIA SKY. He said because of DECISIVE TWELVE’s reluctance to stretch out when racing in amongst horses, he believed that this was the reason for the horse’s failure to finish the race off. Mr W Y So, the trainer of DECISIVE TWELVE, will be interviewed regarding the instructions provided to Jockey Ho tonight prior to the Sha Tin racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 30 January 2022. After the race, K Teetan stated that CALIFORNIA SKY, which was having only its second race start in Hong Kong tonight, raced greenly throughout and after coming under pressure prior to the 500 Metres did not finish the race off as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA SKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. REWARDING TOGETHER and ASTROLOGER were sent for sampling.
