When in the sand yard prior to proceeding to the saddling stalls, JACK WIN came loose from its handler. After being recaptured, JACK WIN was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On arrival at the Start, H Bentley was dislodged from HAPPY SOUL without incident. After arriving at the barriers, A Badel expressed concern regarding the action of BELLA BABY. BELLA BABY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was lame in the left front leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, BELLA BABY was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, BELLA BABY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GREAT FOR YOU began awkwardly. BUNDLE OF CHARM shifted in at the start and bumped HAPPY SOUL which in turn shifted in and bumped ALL IS GOOD. After this, HAPPY SOUL was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. When being steadied to obtain cover, HAPPY SOUL got its head up and raced ungenerously approaching the 1000 Metres. STAND UP began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped PRIDE OF DRAGON. After this, from the outside barrier, STAND UP was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. After also being steadied in the early stages from a wide barrier, PRIDE OF DRAGON travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. Also from a wide barrier, JACK WIN was shifted across behind runners. AEROVERSARY began awkwardly and then for a considerable distance in the early stages got its head up when proving very difficult to settle. Then passing the 1150 Metres, AEROVERSARY, which was racing ungenerously, shifted in and bumped VICTORY SCHOLARS which became unbalanced. Despite being vigorously ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, TRUST ME was slow to muster speed and then passing the 1000 Metres was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 700 Metres, ALL IS GOOD shifted in and inconvenienced EASY SNIP. VICTORY SCHOLARS had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. REGENT GLORY lay in under pressure in the early part of the Straight. After the 400 Metres, DOUBLE SHOW was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running. In the Straight, EASY SNIP lay in under pressure. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HAPPY SOUL at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY SOUL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on EASY SNIP at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of GREAT FOR YOU and JACK WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BUNDLE OF CHARM and VICTORY SCHOLARS were sent for sampling.

22/05/2022  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  A  1000m   Going: GOOD  (2.72)   Rating: 056-043

After being loaded into the barriers, SUPER SUNNY SING (J Moreira), which was having its first race start today, reared abruptly and struck its head on the overhead bar. SUPER SUNNY SING then continued to be very fractious and momentarily got down behind, resulting in its rider, J Moreira, being dislodged. SUPER SUNNY SING was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race. When questioned, J Moreira stated that when speaking with the Veterinary Officer, he was comfortable for SUPER SUNNY SING to take its place in the race as he was unaware at that time that the horse had hit its head on the overhead partition. He said SUPER SUNNY SING travelled only fairly in the early stages and he had to niggle at his mount passing the 800 Metres to maintain its position. He said he commenced to ride SUPER SUNNY SING along more vigorously approaching the 600 Metres and the horse did not respond to his riding as he had hoped and then came under heavy pressure passing the 400 Metres. He added that after staying on satisfactorily for a short distance after the 400 Metres, SUPER SUNNY SING then commenced to give ground and weakened out of the race over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of SUPER SUNNY SING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SUNNY SING will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When SUPER SUNNY SING was being examined by the Veterinary Officer, NOBLE ONE also became fractious and sat down, resulting in its rider, Z Purton, being dislodged. NOBLE ONE was removed from the barriers and also examined by the Veterinary Officer who said after the required consultations that the horse had a small amount of blood in the mouth and was suitable to race. Z Purton stated that after being fractious in the barriers, NOBLE ONE did not show any early speed and got out of its ground in the early stages. He said he placed NOBLE ONE under pressure to improve its position in the middle stages, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and then was very disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish the race off. He added that after the race he was unable to detect any reason for the horse’s below par performance as its action felt normal. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE ONE immediately following the race found that horse to continue to have blood in the mouth. The barrier manners and performance of NOBLE ONE, which finished last, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE ONE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the start was effected, YOUNG HORIZON lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. ONE FOR ALL also reared as the start was effected and was slow to begin. COLOURFUL PRINCE and NOBLE ONE bumped at the start. NOBLE ONE was then crowded for room between COLOURFUL PRINCE and DIAMOND SOARS which shifted in. SUPER SUNNY SING shifted in at the start and bumped EL JEFE. DIAMOND SOARS travelled keenly in the early stages and approaching the 900 Metres shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of TIMESTORM. DIAMOND SOARS then shifted in and inconvenienced NOBLE ONE. Passing the 900 Metres, NOBLE ONE was bumped by ONE FOR ALL which shifted in away from the heels of DIAMOND SOARS. Approaching the 400 Metres, TIMESTORM was shifted in away from the heels of SUPER SUNNY SING. Approaching the 200 Metres, COMPASSION SUPER was shifted in away from the heels of COLOURFUL PRINCE which was taken in by TIMESTORM which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of UNITED WE STAND which shifted in before being corrected. Near the 150 Metres, JUMBO LEGEND, which was making up ground, was shifted in away from the heels of UNITED WE STAND after being awkwardly placed behind that horse. SUPER SUNNY SING, SUPER AXIOM and TIMESTORM were sent for sampling.

22/05/2022  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  A  1400m   Going: GOOD  (2.72)   Rating: 060-040

RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE was slow to begin and then lost further ground when hampered by AURORA HERO which was taken out by BEST FOR YOU. MANAGEMENT FOLKS and TUNG HAYE HAYE bumped on jumping, resulting in MANAGEMENT FOLKS losing ground as a result of becoming unbalanced and TUNG HAYE HAYE, which was also unbalanced, shifting in and bumping HEARTY WISH. TUNG HAYE HAYE then shifted out after making contact with HEARTY WISH, resulting in MANAGEMENT FOLKS again being hampered. From wide barriers, QUORUM and WIDE BLUE YONDER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 750 Metres, TYCOON JEWELLERY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEARTY WISH which itself was steadied away from the heels of PROSECCO. PROSECCO lay out rounding the Home Turn. Near the 350 Metres, TYCOON JEWELLERY was disappointed for running between CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO and AMAZING VICTORY (K Teetan) which shifted out. After being disappointed for running, TYCOON JEWELLERY was then steadied away from the heels of CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO which was giving ground. As the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that TYCOON JEWELLERY had established running between CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO and AMAZING VICTORY prior to that horse being directed out, no further action was taken other than K Teetan was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Passing the 300 Metres, SURE JOYFUL momentarily raced in restricted room between WIDE BLUE YONDER and RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE which shifted out before being directed inwards to relieve the crowding to SURE JOYFUL. L Hewitson (HEARTY WISH) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in under pressure when not clear of CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO, resulting in that horse being hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room. L Hewitson was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 1 June 2022 and to expire on Monday, 6 June 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Hewitson’s good race riding record. After the 150 Metres, TYCOON JEWELLERY shifted in away from HEARTY WISH and was steadied away from the heels of AURORA HERO which also shifted out marginally. As the Stewards were of the opinion that this incident resulted more from TYCOON JEWELLERY laying in away from HEARTY WISH rather than any discernible shift outwards from AURORA HERO, no further action was taken. Throughout the race, CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SURE JOYFUL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of QUORUM immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, QUORUM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WIDE BLUE YONDER and AMAZING VICTORY were sent for sampling.

TEAM SPIRIT shifted in at the start and bumped EIGHT TRIGRAMS. YOUNG LIFE FOREVER began awkwardly. READY TO WIN began only fairly and then was shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover. POWER KOEPP was also shifted across behind runners from the outside barrier in the early stages. Then after the 1000 Metres, POWER KOEPP commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind KASA PAPA. Shortly after the start, HIGH CLOUD shifted out and bumped GREAT BRILLIANT which in turn shifted out and bumped KASA PAPA. Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, IGNITING failed to muster speed and for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover. Approaching the 300 Metres, POWER KOEPP was brushed by CLASSIC POSH as that horse improved to the outside of KASA PAPA. Near the 50 Metres, FLYING DRAGON raced tight inside the heels of SUPER DOBBIN. Passing the winning post, SUPER DOBBIN was awkwardly placed inside the heels of IGNITING. For this reason, SUPER DOBBIN was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. After the race, K Teetan stated that FLYING DRAGON was one-paced when placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight and because of this the horse was not able to quicken into running which was available passing the 300 Metres between SUPER DOBBIN and TEAM SPIRIT. He said because of this FLYING DRAGON was not able to obtain clear running over the concluding stages and, in his opinion, FLYING DRAGON’s run was better than it first appeared. A veterinary inspection of FLYING DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GREAT BRILLIANT and YOUNG LIFE FOREVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. POWER KOEPP, STAR BRITE and CLASSIC POSH were sent for sampling.

A veterinary inspection of NORDIC SKY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, C Y Ho expressed concern with the action of ZEBROWSKI. A veterinary inspection of ZEBROWSKI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, ZEBROWSKI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to KASI FARASI was refitted. FELIX THE KING began awkwardly and then lost ground when crowded for room between JOLLY HONOUR and ETERNAL BLOOM which shifted out. ROCKPAPERSCISSORS, HUNKY DORY and M M NEBULA were all hampered on jumping when crowded for room inside KING OF THE COURT which began very awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. KING OF THE COURT was then shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail. KASI FARASI bumped the outside gate of its stall on jumping and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. GET THE MONIES was also steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover. At the 400 Metres, FELIX THE KING was shifted to the outside of ETERNAL BLOOM when disappointed for running between that horse and SUCCESS FIGHTER which shifted out. Near the 350 Metres, HARMONY WIN WIN went amiss and was eased down. A veterinary inspection of HARMONY WIN WIN immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained an injury to the right front leg. Close to the finishing line, MY INTELLIGENT raced tight between FELIX THE KING and ROCKPAPERSCISSORS which shifted in marginally under pressure. Throughout the race, HUNKY DORY travelled wide and without cover. After the race, K Teetan (MY INTELLIGENT) stated that from a wide barrier it was intended for the horse to obtain a forward position. He said however that after being ridden along in the early stages, runners that were better drawn than MY INTELLIGENT showed more natural early speed than his mount and he believed that he would have had to ride MY INTELLIGENT aggressively in an attempt to clear those horses. He said therefore he elected, approaching the 1300 Metres, to obtain a position with cover in advance of midfield. Also after the race, Z Purton (PLIKCLONE) stated that, in his opinion, the circumstances of today’s race resulted in the horse not being able to finish the race off. He said from a wide barrier he was required to race wide towards the rear of the field when unable to obtain a position closer to the rail. He said when the pace of the race in the middle stages was only fair, this resulted in PLIKCLONE not being able to quicken as well as it had previously. A veterinary inspection of PLIKCLONE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of KING OF THE COURT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. MY INTELLIGENT, STUNNING IMPACT and ETERNAL BLOOM were sent for sampling. Samples were also taken from HARMONY WIN WIN.

STORM LEGEND was hampered on jumping by GOLDEN EMPIRE which shifted out. From wide barriers, BAND OF BROTHERS and CIRCUIT STELLAR were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. RUNNING AHEAD was also steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover. Passing the 1100 Metres, TEMPEST EXPRESS got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed behind COMPASSION SPIRIT. Near the 250 Metres, BAND OF BROTHERS was shifted out away from the heels of TEMPEST EXPRESS which was taken out by COMPASSION SPIRIT which shifted out away from STORM LEGEND. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the Stewards considered if a protest/objection should be lodged on behalf of the connections of PRIVATE ROCKET. The Stewards ascertained that over the concluding stages ORIENTAL SMOKE, which was finishing the race off, improved to be racing inside PRIVATE ROCKET and then very close to the finishing line shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of that horse, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Having regard to the manner in which the two horses were finishing the race off and that the incident occurred very close to the finishing line, the Stewards elected not to proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on RUNNING AHEAD at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, RUNNING AHEAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of TEMPEST EXPRESS and CIRCUIT STELLAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BEAUTY LIVE and GOLDEN EMPIRE were sent for sampling.

K Teetan (SIGHT SUCCESS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 950 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CORDYCEPS SIX, resulting in that horse being hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room and ultimately losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. K Teetan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 8 June 2022 and to expire on Monday, 13 June 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). After the 1100 Metres, PRECISE EXPRESS got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed behind SMOOTHIES. Then approaching the 900 Metres, PRECISE EXPRESS shifted out away from the heels of SMOOTHIES, resulting in PRECISE EXPRESS racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 600 Metres, MALDIVES commenced to travel keenly and was shifted out away from the heels of RISE BRETHREN. MALDIVES was held up for clear running from on straightening until after the 300 Metres. In the early part of the Straight, BOURBONAIRE lay in under pressure. POWERFUL WINGS had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 400 Metres got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of CLASSIC ARCHI. POWERFUL WINGS was then awkwardly placed inside ROYAL BOMB near the 250 Metres when improving into tight running inside that horse. After the race, K Teetan stated that, in his opinion, RISE BRETHREN was not suited by the dropping back in distance to 1600 Metres today. A veterinary inspection of RISE BRETHREN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Also after the race, A Badel stated that he was not able to offer any tangible reason for the disappointing performance of LEADING FORTUNE. He said whilst the race was not run at a fast tempo, he believed that LEADING FORTUNE had its opportunity to finish off, however, did not quicken as anticipated and then closed the race off only fairly. A veterinary inspection of LEADING FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ROYAL BOMB, PRECISE EXPRESS and ALL FOR ST PAUL’S were sent for sampling.

SMILING TIME shifted out at the start and bumped PERFECT MARYKNOLL. From the outside barriers, NATURAL STORM and COPARTNER ELITES were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, VICTORY PARK was awkwardly placed outside BLASTOISE when being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover. However, VICTORY PARK travelled very wide and without cover throughout the race. For some distance in the early stages, COPARTNER ELITES (C Y Ho) travelled keenly and passing the 1200 Metres was checked away from the heels of SUPERBELLA. After this, COPARTNER ELITES continued to travel keenly. After the race, C Y Ho stated that due to the manner in which COPARTNER ELITES travelled as a result of the slow tempo of the race, the horse was not able to finish the race off as well as anticipated. BLASTOISE travelled wide and without cover until after the 900 Metres at which time PERFECT MARYKNOLL was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 300 Metres, INTREPID WINNER was shifted out a number of horses to continue improving. After the race, B Shinn (SUPERBELLA) stated that, in his opinion, the tempo of the race was the reason for the horse’s failure to finish off the race.
