JOLLY RULER then settled with the start being effected a short time later. The Stewards will interview, Mr A Speechley, Starter, and representatives of the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy prior to the Happy Valley racemeeting to be conducted on Wednesday, 30 November 2022 regarding this matter. Passing the 1000 Metres, CALL ME TEDDY was bumped by COPARTNER AMBITION which in turn was bumped by JOLLY RULER which, when being ridden along, got its head on the side and lay in away from SPARKLING KNIGHT. M Chadwick (JOLLY RULER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 750 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of COPARTNER AMBITION, resulting in that horse being crowded for room and taken in onto CALL ME TEDDY which was also hampered when tightened for room inside COPARTNER AMBITION. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 14 December 2022 and to expire on Monday, 19 December 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Chadwick’s good race riding record. At the entrance to the Straight, L Hewitson (LIGHTNING BOLT) dropped his whip. After the race, M Chadwick stated that, in his opinion, JOLLY RULER’S failure to finish the race off was attributable to the horse having to do too much work in the early stages to obtain a forward position as well as having to race very wide and without cover throughout. He said because of these factors JOLLY RULER was not able to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of JOLLY RULER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Near the 900 Metres, SPEED FAY FAY raced tight between CHING and MILLENNIUM FALCON which shifted in when racing close to the heels of SUPER RED DRAGON. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, EL JEFE raced tight between PROUD DRAGON and SUPER ACE which got its head on the side and made the turn awkwardly. PROUD DRAGON was left racing wide and without cover near the 850 Metres. After the 500 Metres, GALLANT HERO raced close to the heels of SUPER ACE and at the entrance to the Straight was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse when being shifted in to obtain clear running. RED TITAN had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 400 Metres, CHING and SPEED FAY FAY raced tight as CHING attempted to shift to the outside of MILLENNIUM FALCON. CHING and SPEED FAY FAY then bumped passing the 300 Metres. THE ROCK shifted out on jumping and bumped FANTASTIC TREASURE. As the start was effected, ALL FOR ST PAUL’S lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, ALL FOR ST PAUL’S, which was being ridden along in an attempt to make up lost ground, raced tight inside EXCELLENT PROPOSAL which got its head on the side and lay in. Then approaching the 1500 Metres, EXCELLENT PROPOSAL continued to lay in across the heels of RUNNING GLORY, resulting in ALL FOR ST PAUL’S being hampered. Passing the 1500 Metres, BEAUTYVERSE (Z Purton) got its head up when racing ungenerously and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of KEEFY, resulting in RUNNING GLORY (V Borges) being checked passing the 1500 Metres. EXCELLENT PROPOSAL, which was following RUNNING GLORY, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. After this, BEAUTYVERSE continued to race ungenerously, got its head up on a number of occasions and shifted in after the 1400 Metres, resulting in RUNNING GLORY again being checked when crowded for room outside ALL FOR ST PAUL’S. Whilst the Stewards were of the opinion that the racing manners of BEAUTYVERSE had been the principal reason for these incidents, nonetheless in respect of the incident after the 1400 Metres, Z Purton was told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground and causing interference. V Borges stated that after this incident RUNNING GLORY did not travel comfortably and then in the Straight did not finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of RUNNING GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. RUNNING GLORY lost its right front plate near the 1050 Metres. After the 400 Metres, FANTASTIC TREASURE improved to be racing tight between ALL FOR ST PAUL’S and EXCELLENT PROPOSAL. When questioned regarding the performance of BEAUTYVERSE, Z Purton stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position on BEAUTYVERSE from barrier 2. He said BEAUTYVERSE began only fairly and he had to ride his mount along in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a trailing position behind KEEFY. He said after being crossed by KEEFY, BEAUTYVERSE raced ungenerously and would not relax which resulted in the horse being left racing in a three wide position without cover near the 1300 Metres. He said he therefore allowed BEAUTYVERSE to improve forward of KEEFY approaching and passing the 1200 Metres and he was able to clear that horse and obtain a position one horse off the rail near the 1000 Metres. He said after shifting to race outside BELUGA, he became concerned that BEAUTYVERSE was not travelling as strongly as he had hoped as he had to ask his mount to maintain its position in the middle stages. He added that he placed BEAUTYVERSE under pressure rounding the Home Turn, however, the horse did not quicken and then over the latter stages gave ground. He said whilst BEAUTYVERSE was disappointing in today’s race, he was of the opinion that the horse did not recover from the incidents earlier in the race and having to make a mid-race move to avoid covering unnecessary ground. He said however that against this, he was concerned that BEAUTYVERSE was struggling to maintain its position as far out as 1000 Metres from the finish. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTYVERSE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BEAUTYVERSE, a last start winner and favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTYVERSE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEAUTYVERSE, KEEFY and BELUGA were sent for sampling.

IMPERIAL MAGEE was withdrawn on 26.11.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LOOKING COOL (M Chadwick). Before being allowed to race again, IMPERIAL MAGEE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. POWERFUL WINGS shifted out at the start and inconvenienced PRINCE ALEX which then shifted out towards the heels of SWEET ENCOUNTER which on jumping was bumped by DEAR SIBLING. KASA PAPA began only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Also from the outside barriers, CAPTAIN WIN and INVINCIBLE MISSILE were shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail. Approaching the 1300 Metres, PRINCE ALEX became unbalanced when racing tight inside GIFT OF LIFELINE and then making the turn near the 900 Metres shifted in and brushed the running rail. After the 1000 Metres, ROUND THE EARTH was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, POWERFUL WINGS was steadied away from the heels of DEAR SIBLING which itself was awkwardly placed behind LOOKING COOL. KASA PAPA, which was following POWERFUL WINGS, shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence and inconvenienced CAPTAIN WIN. At the 400 Metres, DEAR SIBLING shifted out and bumped PEGASUS HERO. PEGASUS HERO then shifted out away from DEAR SIBLING, resulting in KASA PAPA and CAPTAIN WIN being taken wider and INVINCIBLE MISSILE being awkwardly placed outside the heels of CAPTAIN WIN near the 350 Metres. When questioned, K C Leung (HAPPY DAILY) stated that he was instructed from barrier 11 to shift his mount across behind runners in the early stages and obtain a position close to the rail and to find inside runs on HAPPY DAILY rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight if possible. He said after shifting HAPPY DAILY across behind runners in the early stages, he was following POWERFUL WINGS after the 600 Metres and he anticipated that POWERFUL WINGS would be able to take him into the race. He said at the 500 Metres he continued to follow POWERFUL WINGS and at that time was racing inside the heels of CAPTAIN WIN which was racing to the outside of POWERFUL WINGS. He said he was of the opinion that in order to shift out to follow CAPTAIN WIN, he would have had to come back to clear that horse’s heels and as he was following a horse which he considered to be a good chance in the race, he elected to continue to follow that horse into the Home Straight and obtain inside runs as instructed. He added that at the entrance to the Straight he positioned HAPPY DAILY to improve to the inside of PEGASUS HERO, however, was disappointed for this run when DEAR SIBLING shifted out to the inside of PEGASUS HERO. He said after the 400 Metres he directed HAPPY DAILY to the inside of DEAR SIBLING with a view to following ROUND THE EARTH passing the 300 Metres. He said passing the 300 Metres he then shifted HAPPY DAILY in to improve to the inside of ROUND THE EARTH and outside LOOKING COOL where there was running available. He said as he was doing this LOOKING COOL shifted out which resulted in HAPPY DAILY being badly held up for clear running from near the 250 Metres until passing the 150 Metres. He said after obtaining clear running to the outside of ROUND THE EARTH after the 150 Metres, HAPPY DAILY then finished the race off well. After the race, H Bowman stated that, in his opinion, POWERFUL WINGS was not suited by the tempo of the race slackening slightly in the middle stages. He said this resulted in POWERFUL WINGS racing close to heels near the 900 Metres at which time the horse lost momentum. He said after this POWERFUL WINGS travelled satisfactorily, however, after being placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight then did not finish the race off as strongly as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of POWERFUL WINGS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of DEAR SIBLING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SWEET ENCOUNTER and ENTRUSTED were sent for sampling.

BEAUTY ETERNAL was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY ETERNAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STAR ASCENSION shifted in at the start and bumped GOLDEN ARTIE. STAR ASCENSION then became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped SUPERB CAPITALIST which also shifted in, resulting in SUPERB CAPITALIST and STAR ASCENSION also becoming unbalanced. From wide barriers, CAPE BRETON and SOLAR WINDS were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Apprentice Y L Chung (SUPERB CAPITALIST) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of STAR ASCENSION, resulting in that horse being unnecessarily crowded for room and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. Apprentice Chung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 7 December 2022 and to expire on Monday, 12 December 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). SPEEDY MOUSE lost its right front plate passing the 800 Metres. Passing the 400 Metres, CAPE BRETON was shifted to the outside of GOLDEN ARTIE after being disappointed for running between that horse which shifted in and YEABOI. Over the concluding stages, GOLDEN ARTIE raced tight outside the heels of PULSAR STRIDER when improving into tight running between that horse and CAPE BRETON. Throughout the race, HIGHLY PROACTIVE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUPERB CAPITALIST, Apprentice Y L Chung stated that SUPERB CAPITALIST became unbalanced after bumping with STAR ASCENSION on jumping. He said after this he had to urge his mount along in the early stages to clear runners to his inside and it was not until near the 1000 Metres that SUPERB CAPITALIST was able to clear GOLDEN ARTIE and obtain the lead. He said SUPERB CAPITALIST then did not travel as strongly as it did at its initial race start which he put down to the fact that the horse had been unbalanced early which resulted in him having to make use of SUPERB CAPITALIST today. He said SUPERB CAPITALIST travelled fairly in the middle stages and then after being challenged by PULSAR STRIDER after the 300 Metres was reluctant to maintain its position inside that horse, particularly when racing tight inside PULSAR STRIDER which shifted in near the 150 Metres. He added that then over the concluding stages SUPERB CAPITALIST was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close the race off. He said whilst SUPERB CAPITALIST was disappointing in today’s race, he believed that the circumstances of the race in the early stages may have resulted in the horse not being able to finish the race off as strongly as it did at its first race start. A veterinary inspection of SUPERB CAPITALIST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY MOUSE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUPERB CAPITALIST, SOLAR WINDS and PULSAR STRIDER were sent for sampling.

This resulted in FIND MY LOVE being disappointed for running between JUMBO FORTUNE and SIGHT SPIRIT near the 350 Metres. BEAUTY LIVE then raced tight between ATOMIC BEAUTY and SNAFFLES after the 300 Metres and at the 100 Metres was steadied when disappointed for running between SHINING GEM and SNAFFLES, both of which shifted ground. Near the 100 Metres, SNAFFLES was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING LAND when being shifted out from behind that horse to obtain clear running. After the race, C Y Ho was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of JUMBO FORTUNE. He said after obtaining a position behind midfield with cover, he shifted his mount to the outside of runners at the entrance to the Straight and anticipated that it would quicken, however, JUMBO FORTUNE failed to show a turn of foot and then in the Straight finished the race off only fairly. A veterinary inspection of JUMBO FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Also after the race, BUDDIES was noted to have bled from both nostrils. PACKING TREADMILL and KING LAND were sent for sampling.
