Steward Report Predict Pace Map
BALTIC WHISPER shifted out at the start and bumped CALIFORNIA ARCHER, causing both horses to become unbalanced and for BALTIC WHISPER to lose ground. HAPPY VICTORY began awkwardly. WINNING FEELING began awkwardly and stumbled when crowded for room between CLASSIC UNICORN which shifted in and SHINING GEM which shifted out before being bumped on the hindquarters and shifting out further. HIGHLY PROACTIVE shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of MR RIGHT. Passing the 300 Metres, HELAKU KNIGHT got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of SUPER JUNIOR, requiring its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount. After this, HELAKU KNIGHT continued to lay out and near the 250 Metres became unbalanced when laying out behind SUPER JUNIOR. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that HELAKU KNIGHT was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, HELAKU KNIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the performance of CLASSIC UNICORN, Z Purton stated that the horse was up in weight today at its second run in Class 3. He said unlike its previous two starts last season when successful, CLASSIC UNICORN was not able to obtain the outright lead as MR LUMIERES showed more speed than CLASSIC UNICORN in the early stages. He said he was able to shift to the inside of that horse approaching the 800 Metres and CLASSIC UNICORN then travelled well. He said however that CLASSIC UNICORN appeared to resent racing between MR LUMIERES and MERIDIAN GENIUS in the middle stages before coming under pressure near the 400 Metres. He added CLASSIC UNICORN did not quicken today and although the horse was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of MR LUMIERES near the 250 Metres, the horse was already well beaten at this time. He said CLASSIC UNICORN continued to give ground over the concluding stages. He said whilst CLASSIC UNICORN was disappointing in today’s race, he was of the belief that the horse did not handle being amongst runners which resulted in CLASSIC UNICORN not relaxing as it had when he previously rode it. Mr W Y So, the trainer of CLASSIC UNICORN, stated that he was very disappointed with the manner in which the horse failed to close off the race. He said he had barrier trialed CLASSIC UNICORN on two occasions in the lead up to today’s race and he had been pleased with both trials. He said, in particular, CLASSIC UNICORN had worked well since its last trial and in the lead up to today’s race and accordingly he expected the horse to race well. He said as such he was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of CLASSIC UNICORN as the horse appeared to pull up well after the race. A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC UNICORN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CLASSIC UNICORN, favourite for today’s race and which had been successful at its two previous race starts, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC UNICORN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CLASSIC UNICORN, MR LUMIERES and MERIDIAN GENIUS were sent for sampling. <21/10/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that HELAKU KNIGHT was lame in its right front leg. HELAKU KNIGHT was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Moore this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be also lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, HELAKU KNIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
