During the preliminary, Apprentice M L Yeung was dislodged from WIN MORE. WIN MORE galloped a short distance before being recaptured. After arriving at the Start, WIN MORE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. DILIGENT II and GALLANT MASTER were slow into stride. CLOVIS began awkwardly and stumbled. On jumping, WIN MORE was crowded for room between JOHNSON and MISSION. After this, MISSION was bumped on two occasions by WIN MORE which shifted in. After beginning well, HAPPY MASTER was taken back in the early stages and then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. From a wide barrier in the early stages, ALMIGHTY was taken back. After the 1500 Metres, SUNNY SMILES was checked to avoid the heels of MISSION which got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of WIN MORE which after initially shifting out then shifted back in. No action was taken. At the 1300 Metres, MISSION, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up for a considerable distance. In the early part of the Straight, WADADELIGHT and SUNNY SMILES raced tight and bumped on several occasions. After the 200 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was steadied when awkwardly placed between LIVERBIRD and CLOVIS which shifted in. For some distance after the 200 Metres, SUNNY SMILES was steadied away from the heels of MISSION. DILIGENT II, HAPPY MASTER and ALMIGHTY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DILIGENT II was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY MASTER and ALMIGHTY after the race did not show any significant findings. GALLANT MASTER and JOHNSON were sent for sampling.
