On jumping, WINNING STRATEGY was taken back. Also on jumping, TELECOM LUCKY STAR was checked when crowded for room inside SEIZE THE DAY which began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly, resulting in Apprentice K C Leung becoming unbalanced. BLESS US ALL got its head up on jumping and lost ground. In the early stages, when racing wide and without cover, CHAIN WIN proved difficult to settle, then over the concluding stages hung in. For a considerable distance after the 700 Metres, PAR EXCELLENCE, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BUSHWHACKER. After the 200 Metres, WINNING STRATEGY, which was making some ground, was checked and shifted in away from the heels of TELECOM LUCKY STAR which drifted out. No action was taken. At the 150 Metres, SEIZE THE DAY was steadied when crowded for room inside NOBLE DE LAGO (W M Lai) which shifted in when not properly clear. W M Lai was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After this incident, SEIZE THE DAY had some difficulty obtaining clear running and was not ridden out fully to the end of the race. Approaching the winning post, DAILY DOUBLE got its head on the side, shifted in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BUSHWHACKER. SEIZE THE DAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SEIZE THE DAY after the race did not show any significant findings. BONDI LAD and WITHALLMYHEART were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that KIMBERLEY had lost its left front plate.
