After arriving at the Start, W C Marwing (SURVEY SURVEY) expressed concern over the action of his mount. SURVEY SURVEY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. W C Marwing advised that he remained concerned over the action of SURVEY SURVEY and did not wish to ride the horse in this race. As such, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SURVEY SURVEY. Before being allowed to race again, SURVEY SURVEY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GEM OF CHIU TON began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 700 Metres, CLASSA and IRISH JIG were crowded for room inside LAMBRO which shifted in momentarily. At the 600 Metres, NEVER LOOK BACK was checked to avoid the heels of GEM OF CHIU TON which in turn was checked away from the heels of CLASSA. Also at the 600 Metres, FLEET COMMAND was steadied away from the heels of LAMBRO. Over about the final 100 Metres, GEM OF CHIU TON was not able to obtain clear running and because of this was not fully tested. Over about the final 50 Metres, CLASSA had difficulty obtaining clear running and because of this was not ridden out fully. For the major part of the race, WEI HAI INVINCIBLE travelled wide and without cover. M Du Plessis (BLUE SKY) explained the intention had been to have the horse in midfield or slightly behind if possible. He said BLUE SKY began well, obtained a forward position without being pressured to do so and as a consequence travelled further forward than anticipated. When questioned regarding the poor performance of PRIME CHAMPION, B Prebble said the horse had trialed well on the All Weather surface in preparation for today’s race. He said PRIME CHAMPION over-raced and did not settle in the early stages, then came off the bridle near the 500 Metres. He said he was disappointed with the manner in which PRIME CHAMPION finished the race off. He said in his opinion PRIME CHAMPION did not appreciate today's "Good to Firm" track conditions and may be more suited on a more forgiving track. PRIME CHAMPION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PRIME CHAMPION after the race did not show any significant findings. INTERCHINA STAR, LAMBRO and BLUE SKY were sent for sampling.
