MULTI-WIN SPIRIT began awkwardly. On jumping, MAXIMUM CHARM and SINGLE MALT bumped. After this, SINGLE MALT, which was ridden along, was slow to muster speed and throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. Shortly after the start, MAXIMUM CHARM was taken back from a wide barrier. ACTUARIAL TALENT, which was slow into stride, shortly after the start was bumped by ACTIVE VALOUR which shifted in after bumping with OWNERS LAD. After entering the Back Straight, ACTUARIAL TALENT, which was racing ungenerously, got its head up on several occasions when being steadied away from the heels of runners in front. Shortly after straightening, NOT QUITE PERFECT, which was endeavouring to shift out to obtain clear running on the outside of PERFECT ATHLETE, was steadied after bumping with SHINING DRAGON. After this, NOT QUITE PERFECT was carried back in to a position behind PERFECT ATHLETE and was held up and unable to improve until after the 100 Metres. Shortly after the 200 Metres, the whip of Apprentice M Chadwick (SINGLE MALT) became entangled in the reins for a short distance. ACTUARIAL TALENT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ACTUARIAL TALENT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had an intermittent displacement of the soft palate. OWNERS LAD and ACTIVE VALOUR were sent for sampling.
