After the field had been boxed, KING OF HEARTS became fractious and reared, causing the saddle of D Beadman to shift. KING OF HEARTS was removed from its stall and had its saddle adjusted before being re-boxed. As the gates opened, MASSIVE STAR put its head down, was then very slow to begin and as a consequence got well back. On jumping, ROYAL PUMPKIN and KING OF HEARTS were taken back from wide barriers. Making the first turn, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP got its head up on several occasions when being steadied away from the heels of SUPER CAGA. As a consequence, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP lost ground. After the 1400 Metres, FASHFIELD was checked when crowded for room between BEST NOODLE which shifted in slightly and MY SMARTIE which was carried out by KING OF HEARTS which got its head up and shifted out. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Also after the 1400 Metres, ROYAL PUMPKIN, which was travelling keenly and racing ungenerously, was steadied away from the heels of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP. Near the 1100 Metres, MASSIVE STAR, which was travelling keenly, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of KING OF HEARTS. After the 1100 Metres, ROYAL PUMPKIN was checked away from the heels of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP which got its head up and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of SWEET BABY. After entering the Back Straight, TATTENHALL DELIGHT, which was racing keenly without cover, pulled its way forward. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP was steadied to avoid the heels of SWEET BABY which lost ground after becoming unbalanced and bumping the running rail when momentarily tightened for room inside AMAZING CHOICE. No action was taken. Rounding the Home Turn and for a considerable distance after straightening, KING OF HEARTS was held up and unable to improve. In the early part of the Straight, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP was held up and unable to improve when following SWEET BABY. Approaching the winning post, Apprentice M Chadwick (BEST NOODLE) dropped his left rein. MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP, SUPER CAGA and AMAZING CHOICE were sent for sampling.
