After being boxed, ESPACE D’OR became fractious, reared and sat down behind. ESPACE D’OR was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, ESPACE D’OR will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. When the gates opened, HOLIDAY SUN bounded in the air and was slow to begin. AMAZING FORTUNE was a little slow to begin, then lost further ground when bumped by FORTUNE DRAGON which shifted out after being bumped by FUJIAN PRINCE. After this incident, FORTUNE DRAGON was taken back. In the early stages, ESPACE D’OR was also taken back from the outside barrier. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, HOLIDAY SUN was steadied away from the heels of GREAT SHOW which in turn was steadied away from the heels of DASHING CHAMPION. After passing the 1200 Metres, ESPACE D’OR commenced to over-race and for a considerable distance proved difficult to settle. At the 450 Metres, FORTUNE DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of HOLIDAY SUN. Near the 100 Metres, KINGSTON WINNER when being ridden out got its head on the side and shifted out. J Lloyd was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of FUJIAN PRINCE. He said prior to the horse’s most recent start when it finished second, the horse’s form had not been good. He said tonight FUJIAN PRINCE travelled a little further back than anticipated and did not travel strongly at any stage. FUJIAN PRINCE and FORTUNE DRAGON were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FUJIAN PRINCE and FORTUNE DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. FLORAL PICASSO and MAVERICK were sent for sampling.
