On jumping, LASKER was bumped by GREAT HERO which shifted in. Shortly after the start, DASH AHEAD, which had been slow to begin, was steadied when crowded for room inside DYNAMIC which was carried in by UPSIDE OF ANGER which in turn was carried in by LASKER. At the 1500 Metres, UPSIDE OF ANGER was bumped by GREAT HERO (P H Lo) which was being shifted in. After this, UPSIDE OF ANGER continued to be awkwardly placed inside the heels of GREAT HERO for a considerable distance until that horse near the 1300 Metres shifted in, became unbalanced and was steadied away from the heels of VIVA FIGHTER. P H Lo was told he would be expected to show greater control of his mounts. After the 600 Metres and again near the 500 Metres, GREAT HERO, which was travelling ungenerously and continuing to hang in, became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of VIVA FIGHTER which shifted out. At the 450 Metres, BOLD CHAMPION was steadied when crowded for room inside DRAGON EYE which was carried in when racing tight inside LASKER (W C Marwing) which shifted in when not clear. In the circumstances, W C Marwing was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Passing the 200 Metres, HANDSOME TARGET got its head on the side and was inclined to hang in. Just prior to the winning post, DRAGON EYE was steadied when awkwardly placed between CLASSIC REUNION and BOLD CHAMPION. Because of this, DRAGON EYE was not ridden out right to the end of the race. Apprentice K C Leung (DRAGON EYE) explained whilst his mount travelled comfortably in the early stages, the tempo of the race in his opinion was solid. He said he crossed to race outside CLASSIC REUNION in the lead. He said after the 700 Metres in his opinion CLASSIC REUNION began to quicken and because of the solid early tempo of the race, he did not believe it was in the best interest of his mount which was racing over 1800 Metres for the first time tonight to place it under pressure at that stage of the race. He said because of this he did not ride along to follow CLASSIC REUNION forward and then obtained a position behind that horse shortly after turning out of the Back Straight. DRAGON EYE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON EYE after the race did not show any significant findings. VIVA FIGHTER and LASKER were sent for sampling.
