On jumping, CLOVIS and EYE WITNESS bumped. Then shortly afterwards EYE WITNESS was steadied when crowded for room between LOHAN which shifted out slightly and CLOVIS which was carried in by FORTUNE DRAGON. At the 800 Metres, GREEN GLORY, which for a considerable distance had been racing tight inside EVER KING, was steadied when awkwardly placed between EVER KING and LOHAN which was carried back by GALLANT MASTER which in turn was carried back by FEEL THE FUN which was steadied away from the heels of JOLLY WONGCHOY. On straightening, FORTUNE DRAGON became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by GALLANT MASTER which shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running. At the 250 Metres, ON SHAN BRAVE was bumped and carried wider by CARRY GOOD NEWS which improved into a narrow run on its inside. At the 100 Metres, ON SHAN BRAVE, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed between RAIN OF THUNDER and CARRY GOOD NEWS which drifted wider. When questioned regarding the poor performance of JOLLY WONGCHOY, K T Yeung said he was instructed to go forward and lead if possible. He said in the early stages of the race the tempo was solid and because of this he was required to make use of his mount to obtain a forward position and to be able to cross to avoid being caught wide. He said as a consequence JOLLY WONGCHOY failed to finish the race off. JOLLY WONGCHOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JOLLY WONGCHOY after the race did not show any significant findings. RAIN OF THUNDER, EVER KING and CARRY GOOD NEWS were sent for sampling.
