SECRET OF WINNING began very awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. G Mossé (FLY HIGH) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 700 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of NOT QUITE PERFECT, resulting in that horse being taken in across the rightful running of TRANSCENDENCE which as a result was checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. G Mossé was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 18 October 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 11 October 2009. Throughout the race, FLY HIGH travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on MEGABUCKS tonight, Trainer T W Leung stated that when ridden in a forward position from barrier 10 at its last start of the 2008/2009 season, the horse had weakened badly in the Straight. He said he felt tonight that, although MEGABUCKS had raced well from a wide draw early in its career, the horse would best be suited by being taken back at the start and obtaining a position on the fence which would afford it the opportunity to close off the race. He said he was also mindful that MEGABUCKS was carrying 132 lbs tonight. Mr Leung was told his explanation would be reported. CHEERFUL CITY and PAR EXCELLENCE were sent for sampling.
