SEXY BABY began very awkwardly, got its head up on a number of occasions and as a consequence lost ground. As the start was effected, GRAND GENERAL lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. SPICY FRUITY and FUJIAN PRINCE were slow to begin. Passing the 1300 Metres, GOLDEN BALL was steadied away from the heels of WIN MORE which itself was steadied away from the heels of CARE FREE MIDAS. Approaching the 1000 Metres, OLYMPICSHIP was steadied away from the heels of ROCKALOT (C K Tong) which shifted in when not clear. C K Tong was reprimanded. Near the 700 Metres, WIN MORE was steadied away from the heels of BULB TREASURE. GOLDEN BALL and FUJIAN PRINCE, which were following, were hampered in consequence. Passing the 300 Metres, WIN MORE, which was held up for clear running, was steadied when disappointed for running between BULB TREASURE and ROCKALOT which shifted in. Near the 200 Metres, ALICE TOO, which was weakening, was momentarily crowded for room inside CARE FREE MIDAS which shifted in away from the heels of BULB TREASURE after being held up for clear running behind that horse. Near the 150 Metres, Apprentice M Chadwick (BEST NOODLE) dropped his whip. When questioned, G Mossé (FANTASTIC DANCER) said he had been advised as FANTASTIC DANCER was a one-paced horse, he should ensure it was given uninterrupted running so as to be able to make a sustained run. He said passing the winning post on the first occasion, he was racing in a two wide position behind OLYMPICSHIP, however, he elected to shift out into a three wide position and to follow ROCKALOT. He said when the tempo steadied passing the 1300 Metres, runners to his inside shifted out, resulting in FANTASTIC DANCER being taken into a four wide position, although he was not concerned as FANTASTIC DANCER was still able to maintain cover behind ROCKALOT. He said however ROCKALOT shifted in approaching the 1000 Metres which resulted in FANTASTIC DANCER being left without cover for the remainder of the race. BEST NOODLE, GOLDEN BALL and FANTASTIC DANCER were sent for sampling.
