1 STEP TO WIN C W Wong D Cruz 133 82 --

Steward Report Predict Pace Map
STEP TO WIN was withdrawn on 14.11.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WEI HAI INVINCIBLE (S K Sit). Before being allowed to race again, STEP TO WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ROYAL DOCTOR began awkwardly and stumbled shortly after the start. WEI HAI INVINCIBLE was slow to begin and then was vigorously ridden to take up a forward position. From the outside barrier, GLENEALY ELITE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Rounding the Home Turn, ALWAYS SOMETHING was bumped by ELITE SIXTY-SIX which shifted out. ELITE SIXTY-SIX was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. B Prebble (TAVERNER) dropped his whip near the 150 Metres. When questioned, J Lloyd (QUELLE SURPRISE) said that his mount began awkwardly and lost ground. He said that rounding the first turn QUELLE SURPRISE hung out and raced greenly. He added that passing the 800 Metres he rode QUELLE SURPRISE along in an attempt to hold ALWAYS SOMETHING in behind ELITE SIXTY-SIX, however, QUELLE SURPRISE continued to hang out which resulted in ALWAYS SOMETHING being able to shift out passing the 700 Metres. He said QUELLE SURPRISE continued to race greenly which resulted in the horse losing ground approaching and making the Home Turn. He added that when he placed QUELLE SURPRISE under pressure in the Straight, the horse shifted out abruptly, therefore he elected not to use the whip on the horse and rode it vigorously hands and heels. He stated that, considering the circumstances, QUELLE SURPRISE finished off the race quite well. When questioned, W M Lai (MY MATE ADRIC) stated that he had intended to cross over into a one-off position to race outside the leader DREAM HORSE. He said however that BROTHERS IN ARMS continued to race inside the heels of MY MATE ADRIC and he received a call from the rider of that horse on a number of occasions advising that he was not clear to cross. He said at that time it was his opinion that he would have to make more use of MY MATE ADRIC to cross BROTHERS IN ARMS and race outside DREAM HORSE, therefore he elected to remain racing in a three wide position in the middle stages. When questioned, O Doleuze (GLENEALY ELITE) stated that he had been instructed to ride the horse at the rear as it was at its most recent start. He said GLENEALY ELITE began awkwardly, he shifted his mount across to the fence, however, he was further back in the field then had been anticipated due to the genuine tempo of the race in the early stages. He said GLENEALY ELITE was able to tack onto the field passing the 600 Metres where he immediately commenced to shift out on the horse as he had been instructed to make his run down the outside. He said at the entrance to the Straight he commenced to ride GLENEALY ELITE along vigorously and the horse made up good ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY PRINCE after the race did not show any significant findings. ALWAYS SOMETHING and TAVERNER were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ROYAL DOCTOR had lost its left front plate. <16/11/2009 Additional Veterinary Report> LUCKY PRINCE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LUCKY PRINCE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY PRINCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
