As the start was effected, FASTER FASTER lifted its front feet off the ground and was slow to begin. WADASURPRISE shifted out at the start and bumped MAGIC PRACTITIONER. From the outside barrier, JOYFUL YEARS was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, NEW IDEA and SPEEDY TYCOON raced tight between SMART CODE and RAINBOW STAR which shifted out. Then, passing the 1600 Metres, SPEEDY TYCOON was steadied when crowded for room between SMART CODE and NEW IDEA which shifted out after bumping with RAINBOW STAR. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, NEW IDEA was steadied away from the heels of SMART CODE (B Prebble) which shifted in when not quite clear. B Prebble was advised to exercise more care in future. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, RAINBOW STAR became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by NEW IDEA which raced in restricted room inside WEALTH SYNERGY. Near the 1300 Metres, RAINBOW STAR and NEW IDEA were crowded for room inside WEALTH SYNERGY which itself was awkwardly placed inside PURE ALPHA (W M Lai) which shifted in when not clear. W M Lai was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. HONEST TREASURE, which was following WEALTH SYNERGY, was hampered in consequence and shifted out, resulting in MAGIC PRACTITIONER being taken wider. After this, MAGIC PRACTITIONER was allowed to stride forward. Approaching the 1100 Metres, NEW IDEA got its head up and proved difficult to settle when being checked away from the heels of PURE ALPHA. WADASURPRISE and FASTER FASTER, which were following, were hampered in consequence. In this incident, NEW IDEA shifted in and bumped RAINBOW STAR which became unbalanced. JOYFUL YEARS was held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn. Near the 100 Metres, WADASURPRISE was steadied away from the heels of JOYFUL YEARS. A veterinary inspection of PURE ALPHA after the race did not show any significant findings. NEW IDEA and SMART CODE were sent for sampling.
