SOMETHING SPECIAL was slow to begin. FOREST FOUNTAIN (J Lloyd) and UPSIDE OF ANGER bumped at the start, resulting in J Lloyd becoming unbalanced. Despite being ridden aggressively, LUCKYME failed to muster speed in the early stages. When being restrained in the early stages to obtain cover, SUPREME DRAGON raced fiercely and then for some distance near the 1200 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPINNAKER. WAIT FOR ME was held up for a run in the early part of the Straight. In the Straight, FOREST FOUNTAIN got its head on the side, hung in and proved difficult to ride. Over the concluding stages, UPSIDE OF ANGER raced in restricted room between SOMETHING SPECIAL and FOREST FOUNTAIN, both of which were shifting ground. When questioned, B Doyle stated that it had been intended to ride FANTASTIC GUY in a forward position today if possible. He said in the early stages FANTASTIC GUY did not show early speed despite him niggling at the horse to go forward. He said, for this reason, he elected to shift across behind runners and obtain a position with cover. A veterinary inspection of LUCKYME and BEST NOODLE after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKYME, SPINNAKER and FANTASTIC GUY were sent for sampling.
