NATIONAL TREASURE was withdrawn on 12.3.10 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BULLISH WIN (F Coetzee). Before being allowed to race again, NATIONAL TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, GREAT BAUHINIA was crowded for room between MR TOPAZ and AMAZING JOURNEY, both of which shifted ground. Apprentice K C Leung (AMAZING JOURNEY) dropped his whip near the 300 Metres. As this was the 5th occasion on which the Stewards had spoken to Apprentice Leung regarding him dropping his whip in races and having in mind that he was fined after the most recent occasion of having dropped his whip on 27 December 2009, the Stewards believed it was appropriate to issue a fine of $5,000 against Apprentice Leung. Near the 150 Metres, MR TOPAZ, which had its head on the side and was laying out, was awkwardly placed inside RIBOT LEGEND which itself shifted in slightly at this time. After this, MR TOPAZ continued to lay out. In the Straight, BLESSING hung out and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, BULLISH WIN travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. STILTON and RIBOT LEGEND were sent for sampling.
