COOL RUNNINGS was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, CHAIN WIN shifted out and bumped WINNING AHEAD which in turn shifted out and made contact with BLUE SAINT. Passing the 600 Metres, BLUE SAINT shifted in and bumped WINNING AHEAD. Near the 550 Metres, MOUNT SURPLUS, which was racing behind BLUE SAINT, struck the heels of that horse and blundered. BAYVIEW GREYSLEW, which was following, was checked in consequence. Approaching the 200 Metres, COOL RUNNINGS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MUTUAL GAIN. W M Lai (LAZY BUDDIES) was fined $3,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse`s right flank. A veterinary inspection of MOUNT SURPLUS after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MOUNT SURPLUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHAIN WIN, SEIZE THE DAY and WINNING AHEAD were sent for sampling. <3/6/2010 Additional Veterinary Report> MOUNT SURPLUS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination of the horse showed a substantial amount of blood in its trachea. MOUNT SURPLUS was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. As previously advised, MOUNT SURPLUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
