After arriving at the Start, FATBOY SUGAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had a mild abrasion to the right fore cannon. He said after the necessary consultations that FATBOY SUGAR was found to be suitable to race. LOMBARDI, which was slow to begin, also jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of STEEL NERVES which itself began awkwardly. In this incident, LOMBARDI lost ground. TYCOON TAYLOR began awkwardly and shortly after the start was crowded for room between SUPERIOR UNIT and HOT SHOT which shifted out after being bumped by MIGHTY WINNER. Approaching the first turn, TYCOON TAYLOR was steadied away from the heels of LINKED WIN. In the early stages, FATBOY SUGAR proved difficult to settle and making the first turn near the 800 Metres shifted out and bumped TYCOON TAYLOR. STAR LEGEND, which was following, was hampered in consequence. After this, STAR LEGEND travelled wide and without cover. At the entrance to the Straight, LOMBARDI shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running and when disappointed for a run between STAR LEGEND and SUPERIOR UNIT bumped with SUPERIOR UNIT which became unbalanced. After this, LOMBARDI was not able to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres. HOT SHOT, SUPERIOR UNIT and LOMBARDI were sent for sampling.
