WINE WIN began awkwardly. BOULD MOVER and BIG PROFIT bumped on a number of occasions on jumping and then shortly after the start BOULD MOVER was steadied when crowded for room between BIG PROFIT and BLAZE KING, both of which shifted ground. For some distance after the 400 Metres, ABLE GREY was awkwardly placed between CHATER MIKADO and BOULD MOVER which shifted out. Then near the 200 Metres, ABLE GREY was steadied away from the heels of CHATER MIKADO when BOULD MOVER shifted out. Over the concluding stages, HAPPY REUNION was awkwardly placed outside the heels of CHATER MIKADO. When questioned, M Guyon stated that as HAPPY REUNION has a history of hanging in in its races, he was instructed from barrier 1 to shift HAPPY REUNION across behind runners and obtain a position closer to the stand side of the track between runners. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BLAZE KING, Z Purton stated that the horse travelled well in the early stages, however, came under pressure from the 600 Metres and despite being ridden along did not respond and was most disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of BLAZE KING after the race did not show any significant findings. RICH UNICORN, MR CELERITY and CHATER MIKADO were sent for sampling.
