Shortly after the start, BRILLIANT CHARIOT was crowded for room between EASY AHEAD and SPANDAU BALLET which shifted in. From the outside barrier, ABLE DRAGON was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance after the 1100 Metres, MACASSAR proved very difficult to settle when being steadied away from the heels of KINGSTON SPARTACUS. Then near the 1000 Metres, KINGSTON SPARTACUS shifted wider, resulting in MACASSAR also being taken wider and without cover. After this, MACASSAR was allowed to stride into a more forward position. Near the 1000 Metres, BRILLIANT CHARIOT was steadied away from the heels of SPANDAU BALLET. Passing the 1000 Metres, MEDIC FORTUNE got its head up when proving difficult to settle. Passing the 900 Metres, ZEPHYRUS was awkwardly placed between BRILLIANT CHARIOT and FULL STAR. After the 600 Metres, KING ON EARTH shifted in and brushed the running rail. Rounding the Home Turn, MEDIC FORTUNE was steadied when racing tight between ZEPHYRUS and PAPAS which shifted in slightly when giving ground. Passing the 200 Metres, MACASSAR was shifted out towards the heels of EASY AHEAD. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the Stewards acceded to a request from Mr T W Leung, the trainer of second placed, KING ON EARTH, to view the photo finish print. After viewing the official print, the Stewards were satisfied that the numbers as semaphored by the Judge were correct and accordingly weighed-in was semaphored on the Judge’s numbers. A veterinary inspection of PAPAS and KINGSTON SPARTACUS after the race did not show any significant findings. EASY AHEAD, SPANDAU BALLET and KING ON EARTH were sent for sampling.
