MAGIC TEMPLE was checked at the start when crowded for room between SPLENDID CHAMPION and EASY JOB which shifted out. When being shifted to the outside of runners in the early part of the Straight, LEO’S PRIDE had difficulty obtaining clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres, GREAT HERO raced tight inside KING ON EARTH which was giving ground. At the 200 Metres, SOLDIER was severely checked away from the heels of FORTUNE SPIRIT when held up for clear running behind that horse and inside MAGIC TEMPLE. After the 200 Metres, EASY JOB got is head on the side and ran out abruptly towards the outside fence. Before being allowed to race again, EASY JOB will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Throughout the race, KING ON EARTH travelled wide and without cover. After the race, M W Leung (GILDED FLIGHT) reported that his mount did not appreciate today’s track surface. When questioned regarding KING ON EARTH being ridden in a forward position, Trainer T W Leung stated that due to the wet slow track conditions today, he did not believe KING ON EARTH would be suited by being ridden back in the field and having to cope with the kickback. He said he also wished for KING ON EARTH to be brought to the outside of runners in the Straight. He said due to these conditions, he believed it was in KING ON EARTH’s best interests to be ridden in a more forward position where the horse would not be subject to significant kickback and would be able to be placed outside of runners which would offer the opportunity for it to make its run out wide in the Straight. He said whilst he acknowledged that KING ON EARTH had performed well when ridden behind runners in recent runs, he was particularly concerned about the track surface today. He added it was principally for this reason that he instructed B Doyle to be positive on KING ON EARTH and attempt to obtain a position closer to the lead than it had been the case in recent starts. Mr Leung was advised that the Stewards had had cause to speak with him on a number of incidents this season regarding the manner in which horses trained by him had been ridden. He was reminded of his obligation under the Rules to have horses ridden in a consistent manner wherever possible and that he should make every endeavour to fulfil his obligation under the Rules in this respect. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PRECISION MAGIC had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of KING ON EARTH, EASY JOB and GILDED FLIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. BAITIWU and GOLDEN TREASURE were sent for sampling.
