FELAROF was withdrawn on 15.11.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter COMPACT YARN (N Callan). Before being allowed to race again, FELAROF will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, ZEPHYRUS was steadied away from the heels of VICTORY IDE SAY which shifted out. From a wide barrier, GOLDMEN Y Y was taken across behind runners shortly after the start, then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPREME TYCOON was steadied away from the heels of COMPACT YARN when being shifted in behind that horse to obtain cover. After being steadied approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, BILLION proved difficult to settle. Approaching the 400 Metres, COMPACT YARN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PROSPERITY. At the entrance to the Straight, JUGGERNAUT and PROSPERITY bumped as JUGGERNAUT attempted to shift to the outside of BILLION. Near the 300 Metres, COMPACT YARN and SUPREME TYCOON bumped. When questioned, Apprentice C Y Ho (SPANDAU BALLET) stated that he had been instructed to position his mount in midfield if possible from barrier 9. He said SUPREME TYCOON, which was drawn to his inside, was ridden along out of the barriers to obtain a forward position and therefore he shifted SPANDAU BALLET across behind that horse. He said after travelling a short distance, he observed that FORTUNE COOKIE had obtained a position one horse off the fence behind YOUNG HERO. He said he then elected to shift his mount across behind FORTUNE COOKIE as he believed that FORTUNE COOKIE would be required to remain one horse off the fence as ZEPHYRUS was positioned to that horse’s inside. He added he made this decision as he felt that his mount would be left racing in a three wide position were he to remain to the outside of FORTUNE COOKIE. He said however that passing the winning post on the first occasion ZEPHYRUS, after racing tight inside FORTUNE COOKIE, was steadied by its rider to allow FORTUNE COOKIE to cross to the fence. He said for these reasons SPANDAU BALLET raced further back in the field than had been intended. A veterinary inspection of GOLDMEN Y Y after the race revealed the horse to have sustained an abrasion to the back of the left hind fetlock. SPANDAU BALLET, YOUNG HERO and SUPREME TYCOON were sent for sampling.
