From the outside barrier, FAIRY BOY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 1100 Metres, GLITTERING jumped a mark on the track and became very unbalanced in its action. Making the first turn near the 900 Metres, GLITTERING got its head on the side and lay out. At the same time, FAIRY BOY shifted out after becoming awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRAVEL KING. At the 400 Metres, TRAVEL KING was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between NOBLE TWINS and FAIRY BOY. CLASSIC FIGURE was unable to obtain clear running until near the 300 Metres. The performance of MERRY TOWKAY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MERRY TOWKAY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WELL DONE, M L Yeung stated that although he had to make some use of the horse to obtain a forward position from barrier 11, WELL DONE then travelled well during the race until near the 300 Metres. He said at this time the horse came under pressure and despite being ridden along weakened out of the race noticeably over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of WELL DONE and MERRY TOWKAY after the race did not show any significant findings. CLASSIC FIGURE, HONOUR LIST and VIVA DOLPHIN were sent for sampling.
