From wide barriers, GLORY OF INDIA and MOON CHASER were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1900 Metres, INDUSTRIAL LEGEND got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MR MARFACH. Near the 1700 Metres, KENSWORTH KID got its head on the side and, despite the efforts of its rider, shifted in, resulting in CONNOISSEUR’S PICK being crowded for room. When being shifted out to relieve the tightening to CONNOISSEUR’S PICK, KENSWORTH KID became unbalanced. Near the 800 Metres, MOON CHASER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of VICTORY MASCOT. Passing the 600 Metres, MR MARFACH was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KENSWORTH KID which at this time was commencing to give ground. Then rounding the Home Turn, MR MARFACH was checked away from the heels of KENSWORTH KID which, when continuing to give ground, shifted in after making contact with INDUSTRIAL LEGEND on a number of occasions. MOON CHASER, which was following, was checked away from the heels of MR MARFACH in consequence. Passing the 200 Metres, VICTORY MASCOT and YOUNG HERO bumped as VICTORY MASCOT shifted out to obtain clear running. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of H W Lai (TELECOM GOGO), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KENSWORTH KID, U Rispoli stated that the horse, which was racing at Happy Valley for the first time tonight, did not travel at any stage of the race. He said KENSWORTH KID raced greenly and shifted ground on a number of occasions. He said after the 800 Metres KENSWORTH KID came under heavy pressure to maintain its position, however, despite being ridden along, gave ground and weakened out of the race. He added KENSWORTH KID did not handle the Happy Valley circuit tonight at its first time of asking and, in his opinion, the horse would be better suited at Sha Tin. He said he also recommended to the connections that they consider adding blinkers to the horse’s gear in an effort to assist it in concentrating more in its races. A veterinary inspection of KENSWORTH KID after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY MASCOT and CONNOISSEUR’S PICK were sent for sampling.
