On arrival at the barriers, the tongue tie carried by CARTOON FAY FAY was replaced. Making the first turn near the 2100 Metres, when left racing wide, EAGLE SPIRIT was taken across behind runners. Also making the first turn near the 2100 Metres, VICTORY MASCOT and REAL GENEROUS were badly crowded for room by REGENCY WINNER which, after being directed in slightly by CARTOON FAY FAY which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FUN HEROES (Z Purton), then got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, G Mossé. Having in mind the circumstances of this case, no further action was taken, however, Z Purton was advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in future. Rounding the Home Turn on the first occasion, FUN HEROES proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. Near the 700 Metres, FUN HEROES was checked when disappointed for running between CARTOON FAY FAY and ENDOWING which was improving quickly to FUN HEROES’ outside. When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng stated that he had hoped to obtain a position in midfield or slightly in advance of midfield on REAL GENEROUS. He said it was expected that REAL GENEROUS would be able to cross VICTORY MASCOT to its inside and obtain a position on the rail. He added however that VICTORY MASCOT began better than he had expected and then was aggressively ridden in the early stages to maintain its position and for this reason he was not able to cross that horse. He said after being interfered with making the first turn, REAL GENEROUS was obliged to race further back in the field than had been intended. Z Purton was spoken to regarding the appropriateness of comments he passed to a Cadet Stipendiary Steward in the Weighing Room prior to an inquiry being commenced into an incident in this race. REAL GENEROUS, ENDOWING and REGENCY WINNER were sent for sampling.
