AMEDEO began awkwardly. ALPINEFIELD was slow to begin. LONGWAH SUPREME began awkwardly and shortly after the start shifted out and was checked away from the heels of FINAL ANSWER. From the outside barrier, IMPERIAL ROME was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 800 Metres, AMEDEO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SIMPLE. After this, AMEDEO proved difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SIMPLE for some distance. Near the 700 Metres, FINAL ANSWER was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 200 Metres, CHARITY SPIRIT was held up for clear running and passing the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of SIMPLE to obtain clear running. Apprentice C Y Lui was spoken to regarding VOILE ROUGE being severely checked away from the heels of GOOD BOY BOY after passing the winning post. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on AMEDEO at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, AMEDEO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of IMPERIAL ROME after the race did not show any significant findings. CHARITY SPIRIT and SIMPLE were sent for sampling.
