At declaration time, Apprentice K C Ng was declared as the rider of both JOY TOGETHER and GOOD SMILE. It was established that Apprentice Ng had a firm commitment to ride JOY TOGETHER. As such, the Stewards permitted M L Yeung to be substituted as the rider of GOOD SMILE. For this declaration error, Apprentice Ng was fined $2,000. As M L Yeung was indisposed and there was no replacement rider available to ride GOOD SMILE at or near its allocated weight, GOOD SMILE was withdrawn on 11.10.13 by order of the Stewards and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RECORD AGAIN (N Pinna). When proceeding onto the track, XI YING MEN became very fractious and reared, resulting in its rider, D Whyte, being dislodged. Acting on advice from the Veterinary Officer that XI YING MEN had sustained lacerations to the inside of the right front cannon and fetlock, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, XI YING MEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte was examined by the Club’s doctor and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. After being loaded, VALIANT TROJAN became fractious and reared. Before being allowed to race again, VALIANT TROJAN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. STREET CAT was slow to begin. As the start was effected, JADE CHRISTY lifted its front feet off the ground and then was crowded for room between PURE FORCE and HAYHAY which shifted in after bumping EL GRANDE. RECORD AGAIN began awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of WHISTLE BLOWER which shifted out. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, JOY TOGETHER was slow to muster speed. Passing the 900 Metres, WHY WHY was steadied away from the heels of GREAT ALEXANDER which shifted out. Passing the 400 Metres, WHY WHY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MIGHT AND VISION. Also passing the 400 Metres, EL GRANDE shifted in away from the heels of VALIANT TROJAN and then passing the 200 Metres was again shifted in away from the heels of MIGHT AND VISION. Approaching the 50 Metres, HAYHAY was inconvenienced when disappointed for running between WHISTLE BLOWER and PURE FORCE. A veterinary inspection of JADE CHRISTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WHY WHY and PURE FORCE were sent for sampling.
