At declaration time, W M Lai was declared as the rider of both HONEY KING PRAWN and WINE LOVERS. It was established that W M Lai had a firm commitment to ride WINE LOVERS. As such, the Stewards permitted T Angland to be substituted as the rider of HONEY KING PRAWN. For this declaration error, W M Lai was fined $2,000. CRIMSON HEART was withdrawn on 28.10.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (head injury) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter EASY AHEAD (Apprentice K C Ng). EASY AHEAD was subsequently withdrawn on 29.10.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter SPARKLING SWORD (K Teetan). Before being allowed to race again, CRIMSON HEART and EASY AHEAD will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPEEDYGONZALEZ was crowded for room at the start between HONEY KING PRAWN and NAMJONG BLOSSOMS which shifted in. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, P J HALL (D Whyte) raced greenly and then approaching the 500 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between WINE LOVERS and SPEEDYGONZALEZ which shifted in after improving to the inside of the heels of SPARKLING SWORD. D Whyte stated that it had been intended for P J HALL to be ridden in a forward position if possible, however, the horse did not show any early speed after beginning awkwardly and then throughout the race did not appreciate facing the kickback for the first time. He added P J HALL bounded in its action throughout the race but in the Straight finished off the race satisfactorily. Near the 300 Metres, HELLO KIMBERLEY was bumped by SPEEDYGONZALEZ which shifted to the outside of EASY SUCCESS to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, EASY SUCCESS and SPEEDYGONZALEZ raced tight. Throughout the race, HELLO KIMBERLEY and SPARKLING SWORD travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of HONEY KING PRAWN, which was eased out of the race in the Home Straight, immediately following the race revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils. NAMJONG BLOSSOMS and K-MOOCHI were sent for sampling.
