From the outside barrier, GRAND CHAMPION was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, GRAND PLUS was steadied away from the heels of PRECIOUS GEM which shifted in. In the early and middle stages, GRAND PLUS got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, GRAND PLUS, which continued to prove difficult to settle, shifted out when being checked away from the heels of CIRCUIT FORTUNE. GRAND PLUS continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of CIRCUIT FORTUNE for some distance. After the 1300 Metres, GRAND HARBOUR was left racing wide and was allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead. At the 350 Metres, GRAND PLUS lost its left front plate. The Stewards questioned Apprentice C Y Lui regarding TRENDY WIN being slow to begin. Apprentice Lui stated that whilst his mount was relaxed behind the barriers, it became stirred up after being loaded. He said as he was instructed to have TRENDY WIN racing behind the leaders if possible from barrier 10, he attempted to ensure that the horse was able to begin with the field. He said when TRENDY WIN became fractious in the barriers, it momentarily sat against the back gates and when the start was effected began awkwardly, resulting in him becoming unbalanced. He said when this happened TRENDY WIN got its head up and was slow to begin. He added after this he rode his mount aggressively to make up lost ground and shifted it towards the inside rail, however, because of the manner in which the horse began, TRENDY WIN raced much further back in the field than had been intended. Apprentice Lui was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must, wherever possible, ensure that he allows his mounts sufficient rein to begin on terms with the field. A veterinary inspection of TRENDY WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GRAND PLUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WIN IT, INDUSTRIALIST WAY and GRACEFUL KINGDOM were sent for sampling. <7/4/2014 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Officer reported that TERRIFIC MASTER was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, TERRIFIC MASTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
