EXCITABLE BOY began only fairly. NATURAL EIGHT began awkwardly, shifted out at the start and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of CONFUCIUS ELITE which became unbalanced. From wide barriers, EASY SUCCESS and JUN JU were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1100 Metres, MISTER MARC lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of DANEWIN WINNING. MISTER MARC had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the Home Turn. Throughout the race, CONFUCIUS ELITE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M Du Plessis stated that he had been asked to obtain a forward position on NAZAKAT’S LAD but if possible to obtain cover and it was felt that NAZAKAT’S LAD may be able to shift across to race towards the rail but that FAIR WIND, which was drawn wider than NAZAKAT’S LAD, may be ridden forward to lead which would provide NAZAKAT’S LAD with the opportunity to take a trailing position behind that horse. He said in accordance with his instructions, he rode his mount along for a short distance after the start to cross GRAND PLUS to his inside. He said when he did this NAZAKAT’S LAD immediately took charge and despite his endeavours would not relax and travelled too keenly in the lead. He said this resulted in NAZAKAT’S LAD establishing a considerable margin over the remainder of the field, however, NAZAKAT’S LAD refused to respond to his attempts to have it settle. He added he had viewed videos of the horse’s previous runs and had noted that over the 1200 Metres NAZAKAT’S LAD had previously proved difficult to settle and this was also advised to him by Mr K W Lui, the trainer of the horse, prior to the race. He said after the race he suggested to connections that they consider dropping NAZAKAT’S LAD back in distance to 1000 Metres and also consider removing the blinkers as the horse is racing far too keenly in this equipment over 1200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of MAROON PRINCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FAIR WIND and GRAND PLUS were sent for sampling.
