CIRCUIT LAND and CALIFORNIA DISEGNO bumped on jumping. Shortly after the start, MERION and CIRCUIT LAND bumped. From the outside barriers, CHEEKY TOO and WHY WHY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 750 Metres, LAND GRANT was taken into a position without cover by UP AND COMING which shifted out. Passing the 400 Metres, LAND GRANT was steadied away from the heels of UP AND COMING which shifted out. A short distance later, LAND GRANT got its head on the side and lay in, resulting in KING GENKI being hampered. Near the 250 Metres, CIRCUIT LAND was shifted out after being disappointed for running between CALIFORNIA DISEGNO and SPICY SURE which was giving ground. Throughout the race, MIGHTY MAVERICK travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SPICY SURE, J Moreira stated that after having to make some use of the horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position, SPICY SURE was then able to travel comfortably outside the leader FLYING MOOCHI. He said SPICY SURE continued to travel well until after the 500 Metres at which time he was obliged to put the horse under pressure as FLYING MOOCHI was increasing the tempo. He said SPICY SURE initially responded satisfactorily to his riding, however, at the 350 Metres came under heavy pressure and after this was most disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground. He added he was not able to offer any explanation for the horse's performance as SPICY SURE appeared to be sound in its action after the race. A veterinary inspection of SPICY SURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SPICY SURE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SPICY SURE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPICY SURE, FLYING MOOCHI and MERION were sent for sampling.
