On arrival at the Start, D Whyte, the rider of GLORY SUNSHINE, expressed concern regarding the horse's action. GLORY SUNSHINE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was lame in the left hind leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, GLORY SUNSHINE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, GLORY SUNSHINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DYNAMIC VOYAGE began only fairly and was then ridden along to obtain a forward position. Shortly after the start, FANTASTICLIFE lost ground when crowded for room between PERFECT TIMING and BERNARD'S CHOICE, both of which shifted ground. From the outside barrier, GOOD FOR YOU was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Passing the 700 Metres, AMBITIOUS SPEEDY and CASH COURIER bumped. Throughout the race, DASHING FORTUNE and CASH COURIER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding her riding of SILVER GATSBY, particularly in the Straight, Apprentice K K Chiong stated that she had been instructed to try and lead if possible. She said she rode SILVER GATSBY aggressively in the early stages, however, the horse did not show sufficient early speed to be able to lead and SILVER GATSBY was obliged to travel behind the speed. She said, despite again being ridden along approaching the 700 Metres, SILVER GATSBY was reluctant to maintain its position between JIMSON THE FAMOUS and DASHING FORTUNE and the horse gave ground at this time. She added she again commenced to ride SILVER GATSBY along rounding the Home Turn and attempted to shift out away from behind DASHING FORTUNE to obtain clear running in the early part of the Straight. She said as she did this, GOOD FOR YOU improved its position to the inside of SILVER GATSBY. She said due to BERNARD'S CHOICE being positioned to the outside of DASHING FORTUNE, she was not able to shift to the outside of DASHING FORTUNE and was then held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. She said a run developed between BERNARD'S CHOICE and DASHING FORTUNE near the 300 Metres, however, SILVER GATSBY was unable to improve into the run prior to DASHING FORTUNE shifting out. She said SILVER GATSBY was then held up for clear running behind DASHING FORTUNE for a short distance after this. When questioned as to why she did not shift in to obtain clear running inside DASHING FORTUNE, Apprentice Chiong stated that at that time she was racing just to the outside of DASHING FORTUNE and was unaware that there was clear running to the inside of that horse. Apprentice Chiong was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, she should have been more alert to the fact that clear running had developed to the inside of DASHING FORTUNE. She was further advised to ensure that she positions her mounts so as to ensure that they are given every opportunity to obtain clear running. A veterinary inspection of CASH COURIER and SILVER GATSBY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD FOR YOU and SNOWHOOVES were sent for sampling.
