On arrival at the Start, it was noted that STRIKING STAR had blood at the right nostril. Acting on advice from the Veterinary Officer that STRIKING STAR was not suitable to race, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. An endoscopic examination undertaken on STRIKING STAR following the race found that the horse had not bled. Before being allowed to race again, STRIKING STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THUNDER DASH began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by GREAT SPEED which shifted in. Shortly after the start, EVERYONE’S CHOICE and SILVER GATSBY bumped. From wide barriers, LEAN JOURNEY and STARRY STARLIES were shifted across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 1100 Metres, TELECOM BOOM was awkwardly placed behind GREAT SPEED. Passing the 700 Metres, LEAN JOURNEY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SILVER GATSBY. Approaching the 600 Metres, TELECOM BOOM raced tight inside the hindquarters of MANHATTAN STRIKER. Approaching the 500 Metres, SILVER GATSBY was bumped and taken wider by MANHATTAN STRIKER which shifted out into clear running. Passing the 300 Metres, TELECOM BOOM was shifted to the outside of EVERYONE’S CHOICE after being disappointed for running between that horse and GREAT SPEED. Also passing the 300 Metres, MANHATTAN STRIKER was brushed by TELECOM BOOM which shifted out. Throughout the race, SILVER GATSBY and EMPIRE OF MONGOLIA travelled wide and without cover. After the race, J Moreira stated that he was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of STARRY STARLIES. A veterinary inspection of STARRY STARLIES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of LEAN JOURNEY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. RICHCITY FORTUNE and BERNARD’S CHOICE were sent for sampling. <16/1/2017 Additional Veterinary Report>The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that THUNDER DASH was lame in in its left front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, THUNDER DASH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
