WUSHU CHAMPION was slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners. MY GIFT began only fairly. APACHE SPIRIT began awkwardly. When being steadied approaching the first turn, SHINNING MOON proved difficult to settle when travelling keenly and then after the 800 Metres when continuing to prove difficult to settle raced tight inside the heels of MULTIMAX. After the 700 Metres, TRAVEL DATUK was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 200 Metres, INTREPIC was shifted out away from the heels of MULTIMAX to continue improving. Apprentice K K Chiong (MULTIMAX) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 100 Metres she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of WUSHU CHAMPION, causing that horse to be severely checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. Apprentice Chiong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 26 March 2017 and to expire on Monday, 3 April 2017 on which day she may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Apprentice Chiong was fined $10,000. After this incident, MULTIMAX lost its left hind plate. After passing the 50 Metres, WHY WHY was shifted out away from the heels of STAR OF JOY. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that STAR OF JOY had sustained a small wound to the inside of the left hind fetlock. A veterinary inspection of WUSHU CHAMPION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. STAR OF JOY, APACHE SPIRIT and ALWAYS WIN were sent for sampling. <13/3/2017 Additional Veterinary Report>The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that SHINNING MOON was lame in its left front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, SHINNING MOON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
