VERY RICH MAN was withdrawn on 21.3.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PREMIUM CHAMPION (Apprentice H T Mo). Before being allowed to race again, VERY RICH MAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PREMIUM CHAMPION shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of JUNZI. RUGBY DIAMOND began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, CIRCUIT KING shifted out and made contact with ROCKET LET WIN, resulting in that horse shifting out and bumping the hindquarters of SMART SALUTE, causing ROCKET LET WIN to be hampered and SMART SALUTE to become unbalanced. Also shortly after the start, CROWN AVENUE was crowded for room between RAY OF GOLD and KWAICHUNG BROTHERS. After this, CROWN AVENUE was shifted across behind runners. Approaching the 800 Metres, SMART SALUTE raced tight between ROCKET LET WIN and JUNZI. In this incident, SMART SALUTE brushed the hindquarters of ROCKET LET WIN which became unbalanced. M Chadwick (KWAICHUNG BROTHERS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of JUNZI, causing that horse to be taken in onto SMART SALUTE, resulting in SMART SALUTE being crowded for room, blundering and being checked. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 5 April 2017 and to expire on Monday, 10 April 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Chadwick's good race riding record. Making the turn after the 650 Metres, ROCKET LET WIN shifted out and bumped JUNZI. After this, ROCKET LET WIN and JUNZI raced tight due to ROCKET LET WIN shifting out. Then passing the 400 Metres, ROCKET LET WIN was checked when reluctant to maintain its position inside JUNZI. SMART SALUTE, which was following, was also checked. Passing the 200 Metres, LUNAR ZEPHYR was bumped by CIRCUIT KING which shifted in abruptly after being struck with the whip. CIRCUIT KING was then shifted out to relieve the tightening to LUNAR ZEPHYR. B Prebble (BEAR CHUM) was fined $5,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse's right hindquarters. CIRCUIT KING and BEAR CHUM were sent for sampling.
