MY GIFT and KING OF MONGOLIA bumped at the start. ELUSIVE STATE began only fairly. After initially being taken in by PEARL WARM WARM, UP AND COMING shifted in away from that horse shortly after the start and bumped HAPPY ROCKY which also shifted out. From a wide barrier, THE SYLPH was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. For a considerable distance after the 1500 Metres, THE SUPREME got its head up and proved very difficult to settle when being steadied to obtain cover. After the 1400 Metres, PEARL WARM WARM shifted out abruptly when racing ungenerously. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, INDUSTRIALIST WAY was awkwardly placed outside the heels of WORKS OF ART which shifted to the outside of PEARL WARM WARM. After this, INDUSTRIALIST WAY raced wide and without cover. Passing the 350 Metres, HOME RUN raced tight inside THE SUPREME, resulting in those horses making contact approaching the 300 Metres. Then passing the 300 Metres, WORKS OF ART (M Chadwick), which was commencing to give ground, shifted out, resulting in HOME RUN being taken out onto THE SUPREME which was in turn taken out onto INDUSTRIALIST WAY which was steadied to avoid the heels of THE SUPREME. UP AND COMING, which was racing outside INDUSTRIALIST WAY, shifted out after being brushed by that horse, resulting in ENERGETIC CLASS racing tight for a short distance inside KING OF MONGOLIA. M Chadwick was reprimanded and advised that he should have taken corrective measures on WORKS OF ART sooner than he did on this occasion. GENERAL SHERMAN was held up for clear running until passing the 300 Metres. Passing the 150 Metres, HOME RUN raced tight inside VICTORY BOYS which shifted in. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WORKS OF ART, M Chadwick stated that the horse did not travel as well in today’s race as it did at its last start when successful on the All Weather surface. He said, in his opinion, the manner in which WORKS OF ART weakened in the Straight indicated to him that it may be more comfortable on a track with more give in it than that of today’s. A veterinary inspection of WORKS OF ART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of UP AND COMING and ENERGETIC CLASS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GENERAL SHERMAN and VICTORY BOYS were sent for sampling.
