As the start was effected, ELUSIVE RAIN lifted its front feet off the ground and began only fairly. REAL DEAL and SUCH A HAPPINESS bumped shortly after the start. From wide barriers, DOCTORS DELIGHT, GRADE ONE and VIVA COUNCIL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1100 Metres, VICTORY MACHINE raced tight inside the heels of REAL DEAL. Passing the 1100 Metres, SUCH A HAPPINESS was steadied away from the heels of EVEREST (S Clipperton) which shifted in when not properly clear. S Clipperton was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. After this, SUCH A HAPPINESS raced close to the heels of EVEREST. O Doleuze, the rider of SUPERIOR BOY, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when not properly clear of GOLD TALENT near the 1050 Metres, resulting in that horse being awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPERIOR BOY. After this, GOLD TALENT travelled wide and without cover. Near the 900 Metres, SUCH A HAPPINESS commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING. In this incident, SUCH A HAPPINESS and C P POWER bumped. After this, SUCH A HAPPINESS continued to travel keenly. Near the 450 Metres, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was steadied away from the heels of REAL DEAL which got its head on the side and lay out. Close to the finishing line, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was awkwardly placed outside the heels of VICTORY MACHINE which shifted out. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that as C P POWER had been left racing wide and without cover at its most recent start, it was stressed on him the need to obtain cover in this race and it was hoped that C P POWER might be able to obtain a position in about midfield. He said because of the makeup of the field in the early stages, he had to settle C P POWER further back in the field than had been anticipated to ensure that the horse obtained cover. A veterinary inspection of DOCTORS DELIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUCH A HAPPINESS, METALLIC STAR and VICTORY MACHINE were sent for sampling.
