On arrival at the Start, B Prebble expressed concern regarding the action of LEAN JOURNEY during its preliminary. LEAN JOURNEY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had a stiff and restricted action and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, LEAN JOURNEY was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, LEAN JOURNEY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A FAST ONE, which was fractious in the barriers, bumped with BRIGHT STAR on jumping, causing both horses to become unbalanced. FAST ROCKET was bumped on jumping by MANHATTAN STRIKER. From the outside barriers, EXPONENTS, FURIOUS PEGASUS and MANHATTAN STRIKER were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 950 Metres, BRIGHT STAR got its head up when racing close to the heels of GOLDEN CANNON and tight inside SUPER EURO STAR. Near the 850 Metres, BRIGHT STAR was bumped by SUPER EURO STAR which shifted in. Passing the 800 Metres, FRIENDS FOREVER got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed close to the heels of A FAST ONE. Passing the 500 Metres, DYNAMIC VOYAGE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of FRIENDS FOREVER. DYNAMIC VOYAGE was then held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 300 Metres had to be shifted out across the heels of runners in front to obtain clear running. Passing the 300 Metres, K C Leung (FRIENDS FOREVER) dropped his left rein. Passing the 200 Metres, FREE NOVEMBER and FRIENDS FOREVER raced tight due to FRIENDS FOREVER being taken in by GOLDEN CANNON which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SUPER EURO STAR. Over the concluding stages, GOLDEN CANNON was awkwardly placed behind SUPER EURO STAR. A veterinary inspection of FREE NOVEMBER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOLDEN CANNON, SUPER EURO STAR and A FAST ONE were sent for sampling.
