Apprentice H T Mo (OCEAN ROAR) was fined the sum of $2,000 for presenting himself to be weighed out with the incorrect saddle cloth number. After being loaded into the barriers, HORSE PROSPEROUS (K Teetan) became fractious, got its head down and broke through under the front gates. HORSE PROSPEROUS then completed a circuit of the course riderless. Acting on veterinary advice that HORSE PROSPEROUS was not fit to start, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, HORSE PROSPEROUS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following this incident, K Teetan was examined by the Club’s Racing Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements. DON’T MISS and EVER STRONG began only fairly. From the outside barrier, SPARKLING TALENT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Shortly after the start, EVER STRONG got its head on the side and shifted in away from LUNAR ZEPHYR, resulting in EVER STRONG being awkwardly placed outside the heels of ELEGANCE PROMISE. ELEGANCE PROMISE lost its left hind plate shortly after the start. Passing the 950 Metres, PADDINGTON was bumped by NOBLE DE BOY which got its head on the side and lay in away from CALIFORNIA ASPAR. Approaching and passing the 500 Metres, PADDINGTON travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed behind DON’T MISS. Passing the 500 Metres, PEACE COMBINATION was steadied away from the heels of HOLEE MONEY (C Schofield) which shifted in when not fully clear. C Schofield was advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Shortly after entering the Straight, EVER STRONG was shifted in away from the heels of PADDINGTON to obtain clear running. Passing the 100 Metres, PADDINGTON was bumped by CALIFORNIA ASPAR which was taken in by NOBLE DE BOY. Close to the finishing line, PADDINGTON was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CALIFORNIA ASPAR. LUNAR ZEPHYR lay in under pressure in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of DON’T MISS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DON’T MISS, OCEAN ROAR and PEACE COMBINATION were sent for sampling.
