Shortly after the start, ALL YOU KNOW, which was being steadied to obtain cover, was awkwardly placed outside the heels of ROCHFORD which shifted out. Despite being hard ridden for some distance in the early stages, DEJA VU failed to muster speed. Near the 1150 Metres, TRIUMPHAL WIN was bumped by AMAZING RACE which shifted in after being bumped by DEJA VU. When questioned, C Y Ho stated that although AMAZING RACE had settled back in the field in the majority of its races, the horse had also shown early speed in some of its previous races. He said last start, from the outside barrier, AMAZING RACE began very well, however, because there were a considerable number of horses drawn more favourably which were on pace runners, he shifted AMAZING RACE across behind runners rather than be caught unnecessarily wide. He said due to the makeup of today’s race, it was felt that there may be an opportunity for AMAZING RACE to be in a more forward position as there did not appear to be a lot of speed engaged in this race which was contrary to its most recent start over the course and distance. He added it had been hoped that AMAZING RACE would be able to obtain a position with cover behind the speed. He said in the early stages he did not have to ride his mount along to obtain a forward position as AMAZING RACE again began very well. He said however that due to the circumstances of the race he was not able to obtain cover and consequently AMAZING RACE was required to travel three wide without cover outside the lead. He said, despite this, AMAZING RACE again finished off the race well as it had done when ridden from back in the field. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that PROMISE KEPT was lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PROMISE KEPT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FLYING GODSPELL and BOND ELEGANCE were sent for sampling.
