BIGWOOD began only fairly.
AMAZING STAR began awkwardly.
From wide barriers, CAPTAIN BOSS and TURIN REDSTAR were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
After travelling a short distance, AMAZING STAR shifted in and bumped CHUNG WAH SPIRIT.
CHEER WIN made the turn after the 900 Metres awkwardly, got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of PEACE N PROSPERITY which travelled wide and without cover until near the 600 Metres at which time CHUNG WAH SPIRIT was left racing wide and without cover.
BIGWOOD was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres prior to which BIGWOOD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHUNG WAH SPIRIT which got its head on the side and lay out under pressure. BIGWOOD then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ARIZONA BLIZZARD passing the 250 Metres, causing that horse to become unbalanced and shift in which resulted in BIGWOOD being crowded for room between ARIZONA BLIZZARD and CHUNG WAH SPIRIT.
Approaching the 200 Metres, YOUNG LEGEND shifted out after being brushed by EASY GO EASY WIN.
When questioned, Trainer J Moore stated that he instructed Apprentice M F Poon to ride PRIMERO positively in the early stages so as to utilize its light weight and inside barrier. He said prior to being imported into Hong Kong, PRIMERO had been successful when being able to lead in a race and he felt that the circumstances of today’s race provided PRIMERO with the opportunity to obtain a forward position. He said in a number of its races since being imported into Hong Kong, PRIMERO had been ridden positively in an attempt to obtain the lead, however, had not been able to be as forward as had been hoped. He added he instructed Apprentice Poon to attempt to lead the race, however, if runners drawn widely were intent on leading, it was acceptable for him to take a sit.
A veterinary inspection of CHUNG WAH SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EASY GO EASY WIN and AMAZING STAR were sent for sampling.
